A 62-year-old man has been banned from using 911 after authorities said he called the Cobb County number more than 100 times in the past three years.
William Baccus faces an abuse of 911 charge for allegedly calling the number 118 times during that span, Channel 2 Action News reported.
“He calls us for things like getting him a glass of milk and retrieving his remote from across the room and getting his cellphone from across the room,” Cobb County Fire Chief Randy Crider told Channel 2.
Crider told the news station that ties up emergency personnel and requires fire and paramedics to be dispatched to his home for every call.
“It does put other people in unnecessary danger that could potentially need our service in a true emergency,” Crider told Channel 2.
The arrest warrant obtained by Channel 2 said both the fire department and Cobb County police have warned Baccus not to call 911 “unless it was an actual medical emergency.”
Baccus has not turned himself in, Channel 2 reported. The news station was not able to reach him for comment.

Something is wrong with the system if paramedics are required to be dispatched on a 911 request for a glass of milk . There has to be some discretion.

Agreed
And how old or young is this person? I’m picturing a morbidly obese man who needs to be on, my 600 pound life.

Think about this. He calls for a glass of milk, protocol dictates hat medics must be dispatched.
Dispatcher knows this guy is a loon, and doesn’t send anyone. Then this guy actually falls or gets hurt by chance in the meantime but no one rescues him.
Lawyers would have a field say with that scenario.

That a loon called 911 for a glass of milk and didn't get paramedics? Where is the negligence? The fact he falls later has nothing to do with the action of the dispatcher or the response of the paramedics .
If that is the protocol it is absurd.
