Five years in prison. Lifetime ignition interlock installed in his cars. If that doesn't work.......

He will pay his fine and be released. Louisiana doesn't treat DWI seriously until they kill a politicians family, then they will put them behind bars. Until then, they're a revenue stream for the police.

Yeah, no. MADD is too far up everyone's arse at this point. I've seen them send people to be court watchers before.

He'll be one that says he can drink 4 beers without being too drunk to drive and that checkpoints violate his rights.

I made it up but that doesn't mean it isn't possible. Walt loves this place so something happened.

I know a guy with 5. They have been spread out, though, over the last 20 years. And two of them were back to back a long time ago. He only did 30 days and 6 months of interlock for his last one (plus fines). Like any traffic violation, they fall off over time and don't accumulate (provided you didn't hit someone and cause injury or worse).

5 times. This is a regular thing and all the MADD howling does nothing but punish everyone else. These dipshots rarely get caught in the roadblocks because they are professional alcoholics, but all the rest of society has to worry about .08. Meanwhile the .25 or higher of the world set the norm by which LE get federal funding to establish check points. Give it a year, this guy will be on number 6, and the police will be pinching 40 people coming home from an LSU football game at .09 or .1

LA is far different than WI if that's the case.

It's been at least 25 years since they dropped off here and now if you get a 4th you lose your license forever.

Why was he still driving? Should have been in jail.

I don't know all of the nuances of DUI laws across states. I have zero DUIs to my name. I'm just telling the facts of this particular case. Dude has 5 in his lifetime over the past 20-21 years or so. Has never hit anyone. The last one got him 30 days and the interlock for 6 months. That was it. I think every situation is probably a bit different and it isn't cut and dry.

I used to know someone in the DUI list on the Advocate weekly. I rarely see anyone I know now. I guess everyone got old

Which probably just means 5 is the low number

Probably has like 8 or something

Id say it's 5 arrests, not 5 convictions.

When cops pull you over, they see your arresr record, not what the court outcome of those arrests.

Not sticking up for this guy. Learn your lesson after 1. It's just not worth it even if .08 for some isnt even 2 beers.

I actually think every vehicle should have one. Drinking is danngerous and so is driving. You are basically walking around with a loaded gun without the safety on.

I love red wine and bourbon. I just don’t drive around if I’ve been drinking either in excess. 44 years so far so good.

It's nearly a damn miracle that I've never gotten a DUI. Most of that was when I was younger and a moron.

I don't drink much anymore and definitely don't drive when I've had more than a beer or two. It's not worth the risk when you can spend $10 on an Uber. You and I didn't have that option growing up.

My best friend was killed by a drunk driver when I was 16. Never been an issue for me.
