I know Mardi Gras in New Orleans is highly talked about, but I'm wondering if you any of you have ever came to one in Mamou?
Feel free to express the good/bad experiences. Saturday on Sixth Street is the best day in Mamou and there's always a huge crowd out there with a band and DJ.

I chased the chickens in 97, got separated from my party, woke up on a front porch with an old man watching me sleep in his rocking chair, and got drunk all over again on draft beer at the local Pizza Hut for five hours waiting on my party to get me from Baton Rouge. I was a steaming pile of shite during that Mardi Gras season and haven't returned to Mamou since.

the courir de mardi gras is the original mardi gras run. you get on your horse and go house to house begging/asking for something for you to have for the gumbo that night. if they donate a chicken, you do your best to catch it so that your name will be in the pot.

it's one huge drunk fest and I love it.

It is something you need to experience once. The chicken chasing is pretty comical at times. People will start drinking at daylight and get stupid drunk during the day.

If you like drunk idiots, Mamou is your place to go.

Doesn't that apply to NOLA too?

Of all the things the OT calls trashy, mamou Mardi Gras is the trashiest. So trashy that it's fun with the right mindset

it supposed to be. it's fricking mardi gras.

it's not catching fricking beads and riding in a parade.

it's catching chickens and getting wasted.

I went there in 92. Got sick as a dog.

That being said, I much prefer the Courir de Mardi Gras over this other madness.

Actually heading over to that region this week -- going to eat at Hawk's and D.I.'s

Do they still do the radio show at Fred's ever weekend? I still have my brown Fred's shirt that says "Please do not stand on the tables" on the back

Hahahaha. That's a great story.
I hope all of you can make it back sometime!
Today is the big day, and Monday nights are usually very good too.

Absolutely. Every Saturday morning throughout the year, Fred's is open 8 a.m. until 2 p.m. There is a Cajun band, and a lot of older people are there dancing. It's a great atmosphere.
Taunt Sue also walks around with a box of boudin for everyone and a pint of fireball to take shots.

Any idea if kids are allowed inside? I assume not. I'm sure my little son would enjoy it.

Oh well, Briggs Brown at DI's will have to suffice

There's too many people trying to follow the chicken chasing imo. The night before was fun though
