My wife is from Bayou Lafourche, I can pick up that accent from five miles out.

Hers is subtle these days until she gets mad, and then she sounds like a trawler talking on the VHF.

eta: Lockport is excluded from this. Them baws think they live in some magical up north place and talk totally different.

I never realized how thick a Cajun woman’s accent was until I moved back to Lafayette. They sound thicker than the men’s.

We don't have any:

Marchands
Clouatres
Templets
Tureaus

Where I'm from. These sound like fake cajun names to me.

Seriously, does God make Cajuns taller than 5'8"?

I can neither confirm, nor deny that I am a few inches shorter than that

After visiting family for a day or two or after a few too many beers, I’m the same way. It comes out in a major way.

I was walking around campus at LA Tech one day and this dude pulled up to ask directions and the first thing I said was “where on the bayou you from?”.

I'm as Cajun as they get, from Vermilion Parish.

So are my mom’s peeps.

Do you have any idea what a “chorook” bird is? Was listed in the hunting season information published in the 1906 Abbeville Meridional.

“ 8-25-1906 M Hunting Seasons: August 1st to March 1st doves, mud hens, poules d'eau, sand pipers, chorooks, gros becks, and robins. August to May: snipe, cedar birds, and papabots. September 1st to March 1st: ducks and geese.”

Hell, I can tell the difference between the Vermilion parish accent and New Iberia accent. The differences are very subtle.

The prairie Cajun accents are the worst by far. Lafourche ones are more bearable. Also, you clearly haven’t been to Beauregard or Vernon Parish if you include it as “Cajun”
