Speculation that it was at least a somewhat controlled crash landing given that so many bodies are intact.

Russia’s military also says none of its military planes have been flying close to the Russia-Ukraine border on Thursday, RIA Novosti reported citing a military official.

Putin shoots down a "Malaysian" airliner to kill 23 Americans.
Ukrainians shoot down a "Malaysian" airliner to say, "This is our fricking airspace, frick you Malaysia and the world!"
Or:
A (Russian, Russian separatist, Ukrainian) Surface to Air missile battery made a huge frickup and mistook a commercial airliner for a military cargo plane.
