yet my tesla produces zero emissions and claims to be able to reach 1 MILLION miles.
Let me know how much those batteries cost to get replaced en route to amilli.

Clark Howard breaks down Prius' all the time, saying the money people "save" on fuel has yet to cover the "look at me" up-charge paid at time of purchase (year after year of the Prius on the market)

I imagine a lot. But that's like 5 cars worth of mileage without buying new cars or gas.
Now this is just theoretical because no way upholstery stays nice that long or you don't wreck it or do something to it by then.
I have no idea how much batteries cost but if i spent 10k on batteries to have a tesla go 400,000 miles i'd consider that i bigtime win.

where do you think the electricity comes from?
They don't think about these things. It's the "thought" that counts, not the end result!

Tesla reports each battery pack lasts 500K miles

That's why I drive a 75D but I have to admit, I haven't bought gas in 2 years and that part is pretty awesome.
Have you taken it on an extended trip and had to try to charge it on the road? Curious how that works as I know they have added charging stations. Do you have to plan a route to hit those spots?

Good point. I didn't even think about the wear and tear or even the stylishness people keep in mind as a vehicle owner.
Keep an antique Tesla for 50 years until you hit a million miles. Meanwhile people are literally flying above you.

He's got a Suburban for that.

MOST people don't get a new car because of the wear on it, most buy one because they want something new and a Tesla would be no different. You outgrow it with another kid, you get tired of the same look everyday, you want a bigger vehicle to be able to pull a trailer or carry stuff around. Truth is, most people who own a Tesla have it as a second or third vehicle that they can play with.

Right. I agree on all points.

What I think people are missing here is the concept that EV manufacturers and ride sharing companies are aiming to change the way we "own" vehicles.
If the Uber/Tesla ride sharing networks take off as planned in the decades to come, it won't be uncommon for a vehicle to actually hit 1M miles in its service life.

They say I should get 5 years out of my trolling motor batteries, I'm lucky if I get 2 years out of them.
Batteries suck, someone could make a fortune if they could put out a reliable battery but it hasn't happened yet IMHO.
Having said that, if I was really into cars it would be cool to have a Tesla but for the average joe it just doesn't make economic sense.

Im based in Birmingham but have clients in Atlanta and Montgomery that I travel too routinely. Atlanta - I drive there, handle all of meetings and then top off before hearing back. Montgomery - I can get there and back on a single charge so no need to make an additional stop. I've also taken it to Nashville - basically the same as Atlanta. Nothing too far but I wouldn't have any major concerns about doing taking it further. It takes a little more planning but the # of Superchargers is growing and they are usually located at pretty convenient locations so you can just stop and grab a bite or kill some time while you charge. Super chargers will give you a full charge from empty in about 45-60 minutes. For daily charging, I installed a 220 V in my garage...just plug it up every night.

I don't like Musk because he's saving the environment, I like him because he's involved in cool, innovative stuff
I'm sure Bezos is a huge lefty hypocrite too, but he splashes cash on things like pulling up rocket engines from the bottom of the ocean, so who gives a shite

Mine is our primary car...I'm in outside sales so I use it everyday and then my wife and I drive it for anything we do on the weekend. On special occasions it may require some additional planning but overall, it is a very serviceable primary car. We haven't had any concerns at all.

How much of that would he be involved in without millions and millions of dollars of taxpayer money?
Interesting dude that gets alot of government cheese.
