I’m trying to get from Kenner to Plaquemine. I’m assuming the only route is 61 to Sorrento, and catch the Sunshine bridge. Is the Sunshine bridge open? Will I be able to get through Laplace on 61?

I just drove highway 70 from where it begins in Sorrento over the bridge and all the way to Pierre Part with no issues.

I saw people traveling on I10 but local officials encourage you not to do that, as it should be only open for emergency personnel.

i just rerouted my wife causeway to 12 to BR. Cop in kenner told her there was still problems on 1-10 by laplace area. he suggested taking airline down then jumping on 10 but that is slow and still risky.

she's better off spending the extra 10 minutes going 12 i think.

Yesterday from NOLA took Causeway to I-12 to BR. Very easy, took little more than 1.5 hours. Easiest and safest way by far to go.

Need to travel from Mandeville through Baton Rouge on I 12. The DOTD map makes it looks like it’s closed. What’s the real story? Sorry if this is already been discussed.

Sounds like it's open but down to one lane in parts. Unless something has changed recently.

Is there any way to get to Nola from Lafayette with just an SUV?

Yes. Take 90 to 310 to I-10. The water is not that high in Des Allemands and was going down. There was maybe 6-8inches of water across hwy 90 at 6pm yesterday.

Yes. Wide open. Depending on where you are trying to get off, they have a couple checkpoints. But if you tell them you are bringing supplies they will likely let you through.

Okay good deal. Thanks for the information. I’m not making the trip until Thursday. Hope it continues to go down.

You will be fine by Thursday.

ETA: I saw a corvette driving through the water yesterday evening. Not recommended, but he made it through okay.

My family got from Destrehan to BR today via I-10 without problems. Got on at the non-51 Laplace exit. Leaving their neighborhood was the most difficult part.

They are begging people to stay out for a few more days. People are swarming in and it's causing a giant shite show for emergency crews.

I always understanding the logic behind telling people to hold off on coming back, but damn it's difficult for people to not go lay eyes on their house and secure, salvage, sure up anything that needs to be done.

Are people just supposed to sit by while their roof/windows leak every time it rains causing more damage?

I've been there and can understand both sides. But in going it's straining an area with little to no resources. And it happens every time. People say I'm going back to secure my place but you know what actually happens? They secure their place, then go site seeing and cause issues. Additionally, they bitch and moan because there's no power or water, etc. when they actively chose to go back.

It's not the people that do what they say and just zip in and out, it's the other idiots.
