Kansas City looks like it's getting rocked by ice right now. Nothing's taken off at MCI since 2pm, few flights have diverted after 230pm

KC Chiefs are stuck at the airport in KC right now. Severe icing has them in a ground stop and they can't de ice the plane.
Posted on 1/4/25 at 4:22 pm to TigersHuskers
They also probably can't leave the airport if the ice is that bad. Shocked they didn't try to get out this morning given how predicted this was

They tried but their charter showed up late

Tried to turn the water off at the Lakehouse today and the freaking lever broke off. Supposed to have a wind chill of 9° Monday morning with gusts up to 35 mph. Going to be cold all week until Friday. Now I’m going to have to worry about burst pipes all week.

Yikes. Well looks like it's switching over to snow now but a decent layer of ice under snow is much worse for airports. Hope they're able to get out soon
Also appears there's a bunch of flights that diverted to Omaha headed to Kansas City, got a feeling those passengers may also be stuck there for a bit

For Ohio, it's wild that Cincinnati is lined up to get pummeled and Northeast Ohio scheduled to get a relative dusting.
That never happens.
That never happens.

Spent 2 very miserable December weeks for work driving back and forth between Akron and Cleveland. Pretty much just take it slow and pray.

Evidently, KC Metro got hammered with a glazing of ice & sleet this afternoon and will be catching another 10” of snow on top of it tonight and tomorrow. Started snowing here a 1/2 hr ago fortunately we’re just forecasting snow with intermittent sleeting. I mean the entire state is gonna be impassable by midnight with blizzard conditions N. of 70 and ice/sleet followed by snow S. of. 70.

I grew up in Pittsburgh and making the one-mile walk to the bus stop on mornings like that was no fun, I assure you. Not to mention driving on icy roads was scary as heck as a kid. Had a great childhood up there but cold weather is one thing I definitely don't miss.

This system is like a bowling ball. Rolls west to east

Yeah. I couldn’t live up there. That week we had a couple years ago at and below zero actual temps was a nightmare. We had to take turns going outside and breaking up the ice in the swimming pool and defrosting the water heater.

You live in KY right?
Yeah, in Louisville as well.
We’re all ready to go at this point. Groceries stocked up. Space heaters out (we have a heat pump). Fiancé’s parents live just behind us (walking distance) and they have a generator and a gas fireplace if needed. Everything is charged up.
Just ready for this shite to move through and be done with.
