Because your .08 is different from my .08. A one size fits all baseline in something this serious is bull.
And since when do we care what the test of the world does. Especially if it is stupid.
And different states have different laws. So why can't they have different metrics for measuring who is driving drunk?

To show how much things have changed. My buddy got caught leaving Murphys one night, ran from the cops and bailed on State Street. They found him hiding under a car. We had to go bail him out at 3 in the morning. The cops were laughing and calling him "killer."
He never got a court date and I assume it was dropped. AFAIK he never had any repercussions. He joined the Navy a while after that and it didn't prevent him from getting a clearance.

What do the MADD bitches think about all the black people high in a motherfricker weaving all over the road on their phones 24 hours a day?

You should help out with DAMM, Drunks Against Mad Mothers.

Texting and driving is by far a more dangerous problem these days; and it is total B/S that you can get arrested for drunk driving (and life-long implications) for having a glass of wine or two.

No offense, but just because a person has a drink or two at dinner doesn’t mean they are killing a family of four on their way home. You seem like a MADD type person

not advocating drinking and driving at all but those quacks are an over zealous cult, and hypocritical as well, more than one of their figureheads has been busted for DUI

Exactly my point...
We always have a DD, but this zero-toletsmcr deal is BS.
The overwhelming majority of drunk drivers that cause serious accidents are well over any legal limit anyway.

FYI, the law does not require you to be "drunk" to arrest you. Just that you be over the legally defined limit.
i’m not defending what he did.
He committed the crime, and paid his penance for that crime.
He fricked up, knew he fricked up, and he accepted the consequences of his actions.
Was just pointing out that MADD insisted that he was a hopelessly belligerent drunk couldn’t fathom even the slightest possibility that he was anything else.
They treated him as if he showed up drunk to court for his 8th offense DUI and was chugging beers at his MADD meeting.
Which couldn’t be further from the truth for this guy.

The founder of MADD left the group many years ago when it became about prohibition instead of legitimate drunk drivers.

I'll be honest. I hated MADD when they successfully got BOGO happy hours shut down in Texas back in the 80's. I went to those happy hours every day, ordered one drink, and got two, and ate the fantastic free buffet that went with it. Went to a different bar on certain days. One bar always had shrimp on Tuesday, another had prime rib on Thursday. Don't even remember the names of the bars now, but most were around Greenville Avenue back in it's hey day!. It was a cheap dinner, and we met girls. Never drove drunk because I never ordered more than one drink. If you order two drinks they brought four.

MADD are a bunch of women that couldn’t get elected to their HOA. So this is their only way to try and assert themselves on others.

Both of the members I know participate due to losing sons to drunk drivers. Not a stretch to expect them to be passionate.

Apparently, the statistics show that people who are impaired tend to kill more families of four on their way home from dinner. The definition of impaired is now .08% as determined by our legislature. if 2 drinks with dinner puts you over, don't drive. FYI, i'm not sure what a MADD type person is, but I'm just an old lawyer who has seen plenty of drinking/driving/heartache, including a former client who recently drove drunk and killed a guy.
Weigh the value of the ability to consume alcohol with your dinner then drive against the value of the family of 4 you kill on the way home when you're .09 but not "drunk"

I actually started a chapter of ‘MAMADD’ (Minors Against Mothers Against Drunk Driving) at my HS back in the 2000’s as a joke primarily, lol.
Got a lot of followers on the Facebook Group and it kind of blew up was passed around at several other local schools and eventually local paper picked it up.
My parents were not proud after it somewhat blew up
.
Buddies and I still laugh about it today — thank you for this thread.

...that is a perfectly reasonable mindset.
Even as teens we didn't worry if someone drank and drove... But I watched more than one fight start because someone who was DRUNK kept trying to get behind the wheel. There is a massive difference.
In college, it was 3ish am and I was sitting in line at an ATM. Been drinking and likely had a cocktail in the cupholder. The car in front of me suddenly floored it and drove into the brick wall. Backed up, and fled the scene.
Immediately called the cops and gave vehicle description and plate number.
