Balloons are being inflated in New York for the annual Macy's Thanksgiving Day Parade.

But will they even fly?

Windy conditions are expected on Thursday, and city regulations say that the balloons cannot be flown when sustained winds exceed 23 mph and gusts exceed 34 mph.

CNN

NY forecast for Thanksgiving morning:

It’s not looking good.

Update 7:25 am: All clear to fly!

Maybe there's some margin for error they can use this time.

It’s not looking good Jon. I’m getting reports of gusts in the 40s this morning. I’m also hearing about some pretty cold temps on the route. Let’s hope everyone stays safe out there today.

The amount of helium in those balloons isn’t a grain of salt in the oceans compared to the amount of helium used. Also, the shortage is based on the capability of storing helium for future needs and has nothing to do with the usage at this point in time. Last, frick off. I’d rather the helium go to something like balloons that are for a celebration of our past, family values, bringing joy, giving thanks to all we love, than some useless fricking rocket being sent into space that can wait 1 week.

Bah humbug
