I'm going in for a lumbar fusion of the L-4 L-5 next Tuesday in Cincinnati Ohio. Anyone have any experience with this type of surgery? How did you feel afterwards, recovery time, successful or unsuccessful etc.

I’m an MRI tech. Most people I scan say they are better. Some say they are worse. Depends on the Doc and how well you rehab and do what the doc says

You'll be in a wheelchair for at least 6 years.

I think Peyton Manning won a superbowl after something similar.

Seems like you should be just fine.

Get at me when you have a L6.

I hope you have given therapy a good shot. Results will vary. Good luck.

Your L6 is the actually the S1. Had no idea that you're a neurosurgeon. Congratulations

There are anomalies where people have 6 lumbar vertebrae. And it’s not always S1

It depends. If you are plaintiff currently in a pending lawsuit it's likely your relief will be minimal. If not, you will probably experience good results if you have a good doctor.

My dad just had his L3/L4 and L4/L5 done about 2 months ago. Much better now, as he could barely walk before the surgery. Could only lay on his back or stand for the first 3-4 weeks after surgery and his only therapy was to walk as much as he could bare with pain from surgery. Couldn't drive at all for a month and then only around town for about 10 weeks before he was cleared to take off for work; he drives a TON for work. He still isn't cleared to pick anything heavy up yet and I'm pretty sure he won't be for a few more months. I'm fairly sure that he is going to go to a PT who specializes in chiropractics in order to strengthen the muscles around his spine in order to prevent any further problems. All in all he says it was the best decision he made for himself as he no longer has back pain (he still has a slight pain when getting up for sitting for long periods of time but he's still not fully healed yet) and is in good spirits.

And why do you say that? Are you an authority on physical therapists? Or chiropractors?

So you, in all of your expertise, are saying that physical therapists don't have specialties?

Have you tried a chiropractor? My cousin had fibromyalgia like you have and after going to lots of doctors only a chiropractor could help him
