So you don't think an additive like rev x doesn't doesn't stop hard starts in a 6.0?

Dont know what that is, dont care. I do big engine things.

The long explanation:
Modern motor oil is good shite, conventional, synthetic, and everything between. We can get in the weeds on why one product is best for a particular application but across the board the products out there are great. Additives may or may not be compatible with the additives already in the oil off the shelf and it may cause problems. The anti-foaming additives seem to be easily affected which causes the aeration someone mentioned earlier. I've seen that same effect in some gearboxes for various reasons
Fuel additives on the other hand can be beneficial. There are lots of products out there that extend shelf life, can decarb 2 strokes, clean out gunk, etc. I do think these products tend to be overused because manufacturers generally give poor guidance on how to use them but at the worst they don't hurt anything.
Oil additives can hurt things. If you read your manual (read your damn manual people) most will recommend using a particular oil and strongly recommend against adding anything to it.
Just read the manual and follow it.

Lucas is good for quieting some engine tapping when you're trying to sell it.
Posted on 6/29/19 at 8:19 am to GoodOlBaw
I've used it to quiet down engines before. It's thick as frick.
I suspect most people that say it doesn't work haven't used it

Most are gimmicks....only beneficial if you use shite oil. Good, quality oil has all of the additives you need.
In fact, adding additives and extra products does more harm than good in most cases.

Why do you run delo instead of rotella in your diesels just out of curiosity?
I tried to break in a small diesel I had rebuilt on delo once. It wouldn't seat the rings. Kept lightly smoking. Pulled it down and the cross hatching and rings were perfect.
Had my machinist check his work and it was perfect. He asked if I had used delo. Said an engine had a helluva time wearing in on that. Broke in on old rotella, then switched. I've done it ever since. Wear metals are basically non-existent.
As for the guy not understanding that burning a small amount of oil is necessary, your piston rings ride on a layer of oil. Even the uppermost ring. For it not to tear your engine apart, a small amount of oil is sacrificed to the combustion chamber on the downstroke.

Delo is a better oil than rotella. Shell just had the best marketing in the world back in the 80s and 90s so the old school guys all prefer rotella. But the data suggests that Delo is a better quality

Rando, what lab do you use for your samples?

Back when I was turning and burning, my C15 Caterpillar agreed. She would burn through the rotella, but The Delo, not so much. Could go 12-15 thousand miles before adding. Rotella, I would add add at 7-8 thousand.

Blackstone.
I'm purely looking for wear metals and dust contamination though

Another question: full synthetic. Yes or no?
A 5qt bottle of mobil 1 is only $20 at walmarks so why not.

Better oxidation resistance

Doesn’t really matter for a daily driver....especially if you are running short drain intervals

Good oil does not need additional additives.

I run lucas oil stabilizer in my airboat engine. it quiets down the valves [continental]. I use the synthetic stabilizer in the f-250 [gas] and my old chevy. I use it in my brigs [prodrive] and also use the lucas oil stop leak in my old airboat engine and it does stop a lot of seal leaks.
I've been using the oil stabilizer for years and have no complaints. I run the fuel stabizer in stuff too. no complaints.

This is absolutely correct. Shell has done a great job of making “Rotella” synonymous with 15W40 HDEO so it’s become most people’s go to. Just like people interchangeably using “Coke” in place of soft drink. Rotella T-T4 all have poor NOACK ratings. They are highly volatile and known for burning off during use and it also has poor cold crank protection (Delo is actually worse in cold crank protection but much better in volatility)
