Bringing the broken culture with them not their race is what starts white flight and the lowering of property values.

Yeah many Black middle class folks don't really mess with Southern like they used to. They still love the culture over there but most of them are deciding not to enroll at SU because of the type of problems there. And also LSU campus just blows SU campus out the water ... it's hard for SU to compete.
You could have just said the problem is SU is full of Blacks (capitalized per AP guidance).

Schools such as Bama and La Tech are merit based.
quote:I am not sure how LSU factors in ACT or SAT now or if it’s back to being a requirement, but dropping those across the country for at least fall 2021 admissions if not longer in some places allowed kids from worse academic high schools including the ones that inflate grades to get admitted and/or to get $ over more qualified students coming from higher quality high schools. Even for those that added them back I wonder if they have the same weight as before or if tests are being pushed to get dumbed down somehow in the future.
the most they would match us is 50% based on income despite my son scoring perfect on standardized tests (ACT and SAT).

This is a scam that universities across the country adopted post-George Floyd to promote “equity” in higher education. From all accounts, it’s been a disaster. Harvard recently had to create a remedial math class because some of the students couldn’t do high school-level Algebra. And that’s Harvard. Imagine the geniuses LSU accepts these days.

Tell us again how you are a “black conservative”. lol.
You are just as racist as anyone I’ve seen post here. You certainly use race as a factor in most of your post

It's simply not a top tier destination for college. High achievers want the best environment. LSU is far from that.

Sure.
There was a recent article in the Chronicle of Higher Education titled Where Are The White Students? that dives into understanding the trend. Among some of the sources used was a 2023 survey of about 1,000 adults produced for the Chronicle on the perceived value of higher education at the time. One question asked was "If a close friend or relative today asked you for advice on whether or not they should try to get a bachelor's degree, what would you advise them?" The responses were: To try for a bachelor's degree (White 75%, Total minority 83%), Not to try for a bachelor's degree (White 23%, Total minority 16%). It doesn't mean that white people don't value a higher education degree, but it does indicate that non-white people value a degree more and recommend it more to people within their relationship spheres.
There were nine other questions asked in the survey, and in the questions where participants were asked value questions with choices of A Great Deal/A Good Amount/Somewhat/Not At All, the group Total Minority reported higher values in responses A Great Deal + A Good Amount in more categories than the group White. I'm really simplifying the data because I'm too lazy to screenshot the results and post them here.

Absolutely… my son has 4.6 GPA, 36 ACT score and is national merit semi finalist. LSU has said he can just use TOPS, nothing else offered so far…So basically we would be out of pocket to go there. He could go to Alabama and several other out of state schools, and receive 5 years fully paid plus room and board and summer abroad stipend. I have talked to many other parents with kids in similar situations who have opted to go out of state because of this. Alabama actually has the second highest number of National merit kids in the country because they are willing to attract them there. The sad thing is he actually wants to go to LSU and be in tiger band.
I’d send him to Tehran University before Bama

LSU gonna be an HBCU before long. Maybe merge with Southern.
Southern Louisiana State University has a nice ring.

Thanks for the reply.
I haven't spoken to any white people that put a lesser value on a degree at all, and while admittedly I have fewer black friends than white, none have expressed a lack of desire for a college degree.
I think that "hypothesis" is based on nothing but conjecture.

All kidding aside, the decline of BR is a larger issue than some would admit.

No doubt.
And LSU becoming a diploma mill isn't going to help.

That’s not true at all. The HBCU experience is vastly different to the PWI experience. I went to LSU, my brother went to FAMU. he absolutely loved it the same way people love Southern. I work with mostly black people that are making good money. All of their kids go to or went to Southern or other HBCU’s.

Where did this come from?
Can you cite anything to give that some credence?
Im wondering this as well. Because I would say certain minority groups dont even care about finishing high school.

But black kids from baton rouge are still choosing LSU over Southern, more than in the past. My assumption is if you can get into LSU you can get into Southern. So i don't think its because southern didnt want these students for the past decade or more.
