How long until we find out he made a racist comment in the 60's and it's torn down?

Should being a felon disqualify him from being memorialized with a statue?

I think most Louisiana people are perfectly fine with that. I lived in south Louisiana for four years, and what people deem as acceptable down there is a little different than the rest of the country.

Penn State was turning their head to children being molested and Oregon State pitched a convicted child molester to win a championship so I guess what we deem acceptable is a little different.

was human, made mistakes and paid his debt to society and then some. If you are going to judge the man beyond his LSU career then you should acknowledge the good things he did with the bad everyone harps on. There's obvious ulterior motives and bitterness by some posters here.

I 100% agree with you. That's not why some people are upset. It's the double standard when it comes to "victimless crimes" that people are upset about.

I dont care about the statue. Go ahead and honor him. But I do take issue when you people want to be forgiving only for people they like and don't hold that same ideology in other cases.

Again, I'm talking victimless crimes, not murders.

Billy Cannon touched a girl's boob at a party in 1956.

It sounds like you have somebody specific in mind.

Oh ffs. So he counterfeited some bills. It’s a victimless crime. Build the damn statue.

Yeah, he just tried to cheat his way through life while everyone else busted their arse trying to make an honest dollar. There's a lesson to be learned here and it shouldn't be ignored. There's a reason this "victimless crime" is a felony and not a misdemeanor. If everyone did it our entire economy would collapse.

I believe it should. I know he was a good man who made some bad decisions, but his legend is tainted in my opinion. This teaches our youth that it doesn't matter if you're a felon as long as you're good at a game.

You're obviously not a sports fan or LSU fan. There have been countless redemption story articles written about his post conviction career and service to the state and community.

Don't you question my fanhood! I'm just not biased because he's an alum to the same college as me.

I get that and agree. What I meant is that the great part of the Billy Cannon story is what he did to turn his life around after the bad stuff. That's what I meant about the redemption story. It's why he was welcomed back to Tiger Stadium, why national sportswriters started writing about him again. It's a good story, a good reminder of how lives can change for the better, and his statue outside the stadium would represent a lot of positive ideals.

I overheard him telling his nephew it was OK to use his fame to get laid.

Whatthefrickever. You are an idealistic prick that I'm assuming has never done anything wrong in your life. I'm sure you didn't blink an eye when you got put on the dean's list in college even though you know damn well you cheated off Susie Sue in Biology class your sophomore year in high school. You're the kind of hypocrite that pisses me the frick off. So

but I would rather a statue of Jerry Stovall or Tommy Casanova than him.

It's very possible those two will get one as well. All 3 numbers are retired.

I don't think this is correct. The only number that no other LSU player can wear is 20. Now Stovall and Casanova are honored in some way with their jerseys, but their number can be worn by current players. So maybe it's just the wording, "retired" vs some other version.
