So you would either have a 4.0 or 0.0?

About 3 times a year, I'll have that "Oh shite, I never went to that class all semester and the final is tomorrow" dream.

Hell, just give a student a degree for paying tuition. It’s coming to that anyway.

Why demonstrate mastery of a subject when a courtesy knowledge will do?

You get a trophy and you get a trophy and ...

I would like to know the GPA's of the idiots that are signing this petition.

I'm later in my years going to school right now.

My goal is a 4.0 so I can separate myself (in conjunction with my previous applicable professional experience) from the rest of the competition.

Especially needed to compete against the younger grads in my field.

I'll be pissed if they mess this up for me.

Another other than pass fail is disgusting.

1) You are literally grading people based on their accommodations and ability to handle the coronavirus- not actual coursework

2) What about people with families, mortgages, jobs, kids? Are you going to penalize their grades because they couldn't focus because their kid was up screaming all night?

3) Any of you who think online, virtual instruction is the same or even adequate should PM me so I can send you a link from my class yesterday. 15% of it was inaudible. Now I'm going to have my grades dependent on my ability to translate this inaudible crap put forward?

4) Apply a balancing test- what is more important/given more weight? Some overachiever who wants to keep grades so he can move up from a 3.5 to a 3.6 and finally get highest honors!!? Or keep the field level so people don't ruin their careers and futures because of a global pandemic that no one can control

5) To keep grades at the same level would be to say "well there's a pandemic, unemployment is almost 10%, the federal reserve is going bonkers, the house just passed a $2 trillion package, but you know what, school and grades is more important than all that! Good luck w your wife who is a nurse or your husband that just lost his job!" How can we as a society justify this absurd line of thinking

Anything other than pass fail or some form thereof should not be tolerated donors need to step in. Figure it out

I’m a month from the end of the semester with all As including two grad level classes... why should I lose that for some dramatic music major to get a pass in Trumpet 1023?

They tried this when I was at LSU in the 90s; for different reasons. It didn't happen then, and I don't think it'll happen now.

As it should be. College GPA in the real world today isn't what it used to. If you're a standout student and adult, people will notice anyway. Time to change the paradigm honestly.

I know I'm good with my doctor getting 70% of the surgery correct. That counts as passing, right?

Hate to tell you, but there are plenty of doctors out there that finished in the bottom percentage of their class.

Pretty sure pass/fail systems are harder to pass then normal grading systems.

As it should be. If you're going to screw over the top end, then you should also screw over the bottom end and raise the threshold

A passing grade in a Pass/Fail system generally does not impact GPA.

ETA: I see this idiotic proposal actually argues for no impact to GPA regardless of P/F. That's dumb.

The United States Medical Licensing Exam Step 1 is moving to pass/fail scoring in 2 years. Some medical schools already do Satisfactory/Unsatisfactory grading. So, we live in a “just enough to get by” world.

First off, you can’t get into medical school with anything lower than a B average. Second, med school will kick you out for c’s.
