My kid is not a freshman, and 4 of 5 are online.

It just one data point so im not trying to make any sweeping statements, just putting it out there.

I think a substantial portion of the student population would prefer to have their classes 100% online while also living near campus to get the extracurricular collegiate experience.

Did you see CFB being cancelled? It's ok if they want to have classes online, but they should have let the students and parents know so that they could make informed decisions.

The University stil has to maintain its facilities and pay their employees. You can't give substantial discounts to students without destroying the support mechanism that keeps the campus running. They have far too much money that they are spending on facilities. The construction projects going on, bid in the last month, and coming up soon, are insane.

Do you really believe that they will be able to experience the college life. Like they are going to let more than 2 people congregate.

My coworker's incoming freshman daughter chose Ole Miss specifically for the atmosphere. She might as well be going to Nicholls for all the atmosphere she's going to get.

Not at all. My daughter was set to be a freshman out of state this fall. They told us in July, conveniently after the enrollment fee and dorm deposit was due, that they were going online only. At least they gave us the option to delay her start until January. Enrollment fee applied to Winter quarter instead, and "non refundable" dorm deposit refunded.

You are paying for the college experience, networking, and actual teaching that can't be done nearly as well online. It's only 2 months, one quarter. She can pretend to be an adult and work full time this fall and just wait to start the college experience in January.

This is why we didn't register my son this semester. I knew they were going to do this at schools all over, including his. He needs the classroom environment and routine to be successful. I am so glad we didn't get caught in the trap.

BS - just like every other business, if LSU cannot pay its employees, then lay them off or furlow them - but to make students pay "activity fees" and "building use fees" and "student excellence fees" when LSU knows full well that it will not be providing those services to the students in exchange for the payments is, in my book, outright theft, and/or at the very least a breach of contract by LSU - it would be like a restaurant saying that they are providing pick up service only, accepting telephone orders and collecting the money during the ordering process, when the restaurant is shut down and has no intention of filling the order

For months it has been said that most classes would be online.

Just because people like you didn't want to admit it, doesn't mean it didn't happen.

This has been largely talked about since April. Everyone knew this was going to be the case. Universities could not just say in May well we are going to 100% online learning. Would have been tremendous backlash. They planned for it to open. But everyone knew there would be no college football and very limited in person classes. Now is the time to announce it based on whats on whats been going on in middle and highschools around the country. But its been a forgone conclusion this would be the case.

What's crazy is they will give you a bit of a credit for not being on campus, like building use fee, but then charge you more for the class being online.

What else is new? After LSU fricked me over right before graduation I made a promise to myself to never donate a penny. LSU should stop pandering to the lowest common denominator and start showing some appreciation to the rest of their students and alumni.

I wonder how it will work for students living off campus who already have housing secured for the year and are locked into leases, etc.
