Fourth and final LSU Tiger moved in this AM for me. I’d say the smoothest/easiest of them all. This one in Cedar - first two in Miller and #3 in Blake Hall. This side of campus easier for sure. Had the 0800 slot today, quick, efficient.

I was shocked at how easy move in day was at Baylor when my daughter was a Freshman. Had the back of my truck and loaded with boxes labeled with her name and room number. Pulled up at my designated time and a swarm of kids and faculty had it emptied out and moved to her room in minutes. Didn't need to touch anything.
Back in the stone age when I went off to college I had my stuff in my truck and had to carry it all in myself.

My oldest moved into North Hall in the fall of 2018. Because she was going through Rush, they let those students move in a day early. Thank you Tiny Baby Jesus! Her dorm mate moved in the day after and it took them 8 hours to get her in and settled. Took us about 45 minutes.

My parents hated me. I’m not even sure they came down until they came to a game my second year.

Do they require locals to move into the dorms now?

Its different now than it was even 15 years ago. I did orientation/student life stuff back in the 90s, I would say less than 50% of freshman had parents come for spring testing/summer orientation, and there was no structure to move in day. You showed up, got your key, that was that, maybe a few evening activities at the dorms.
Now its a big, big deal for the whole family. Some of it is definitely to show colleges are giving students something in exchange for skyrocketing tuition.

1985 me was dropped off by my Mom in front of Hodges with $40, a clothes hamper, a box fan, and a 100 lb 19" TV. She did get out of the still running car to give me a hug. My Dad was at work. Walked up two flights of stairs, unloaded everything and twenty minutes later was bumming a ride with a dude in his Buick Regal to that place outside the north gate on Nicholson that rented dorm fridges. Sat in the open trunk holding my fridge as we drove back to campus (his fridge rode in the passenger seat as his back seat was still full of his shite).
A few days later I called my parents to tell them my phone was hooked up. That same week, I walked over to University shopping center, opened a checking account, and deposited the $32 I had left. I started a new campus work study job, worked there for four years and my parents never knew exactly where I worked (basement of Himes) or who I worked for, or visited the place. Later in the week, went to the assembly center at 730am, and scrambled from table to table, pulling punch cards for classes with a catalog in one hand, and schedule of classes in the other. Then walked over the bursars office to stand in line an hour to clear up a student loan issue, walked back to the assembly center and finished registering mid-afternoon. I got most of the classes I needed, and half the classes I wanted. Spent the first week of actual classes going between professors offices and standing in line at their door trying to get into their class, or switch class times to make the whole damn thing work. I called my parents a few days after classes started to let them know how many hours, classes, etc. After that, we talked once a week or so, usually on Friday to let them know if I was coming home (30 mins away).
In 2010, my daughter started LSU and my wife and I drove her over from Houston with a loaded down Expedition. It included her completed class schedule with all of the classes she wanted and needed. Upon arrival, volunteer athletes were outside the dorm to help us schlep her shite 25 feet to the elevator in Evangeline. Dropped a $250 on dinner that night with her, her new roommate and her roommates parents before dropping her off back at the dorm and we went back to our room at the Hilton downtown. Had breakfast at Louie's the next day and was a teary eyed bitch all the way back to Houston as her and my wife texted a few dozen times during said trip.
Different times.

No, there’s a 50 mile forgiveness.
My youngest will be going to LSU next year. I’m thinking apartment.

The thrill of moving out of my parents house at age 18 and being on my own. Great memories!

First week as a freshman, a buddy and I walked out of Sports Illustrated at 2am drunk off our arse and realized our ride had left us. As we walked all the way back to our un air-conditioned dorm sweating our arse off, and getting eaten up by mosquitos, I remember thinking this shite is AWESOME.
Today, I get pissed over having to fill the washer fluid on a hot day.

So a parent gets called out for moving his freshman “grown man” into the dorm? How about the grown man in another post who referred to freshman girls as primo talent? Wrong person being called out.

And on that day, not a single rule was followed nor was a single picture posted.

This is a good read. For the TLDR crowd, it basically says that back in the day, 18 year-olds had to be problem solvers to survive and had to figure shite out on their own, while today's kids are soft.
It really was amazing how it was--parent's dropped the kid off at college, pinned a $20 bill on their shirt and wished them the best of luck, and were like "Bye. See you at Thanksgiving"

That’s because she was getting railed in every dorm building on campus from day 1.
