Most Greeks that I have met over the years, turn into travel ball dads. They had to buy their friends in college, and now, believe they need to spend $$$ on Jayden and Jaxson to be able to have any friends at all, the other travel ball dads.
This is so far off its pathetic.
I don't know any travel ball dads who were in a fraternity and guys who were in a fraternity don't name their kids Jayden or Jaxon

How can people bitch and moan about trial lawyers on one hand, and then say it ok for underage and irresponsible drinking to go on in fraternities?
When something happens, people sue. Rates go up,
You can’t have virtual lawlessness, and then somebody gets killed or maimed and no consequences. It doesn’t work like that.

It was 100% my fault. I picked the wrong frat for the wrong reasons and it didn't work out for me. I don't blame the frat at all, but that doesn't mean there wasn't incredible pressure on me to "fit in" and be a good Greek soldier. Perhaps that would have slacked off once I became an active, but I didn't want to be a part of a group that molded me into their image and I felt like that was what was happening.
things must've drastically changed. We were never forced to do anything stupid. We did stupid shite all on our own. Never was forced to drink. Just had a 40 gallon trash can of jungle juice and all the kegs you wanted if you felt like drinking till you passed out.
Maybe kids are more sadistic today. But the only pledges who ever got in a bind were the ones who were trying to hard. They didn't die. They just called balled at the next chapter meeting.

I know I’ll get a lot of shite for this, but in terms of professional development joining a fraternity is one of the best things you can do for your career.
you shouldn't get shite for speaking the truth.... this is probably one of the only things i'll say is a positive for joining a fraternity...
the rest of it, the thinly veiled homoerotic nature of it all, the stupidity and arrogance of the members, the superiority complex that is so very present, all that shite, yeah, those are the reason to not join...
but for your comment, i'll give you credit... you are right about that...

I've gotten exactly zero career benefits from it, but I had a lot of fun.

Pretty much this. I'm not a hater of the greeks but come on guys. There is no slack right now. Be on good behavior for a while.

Good. Greek Life is a blight on America.

I don't think anyone thinks that. A lot of that drinking occurs outside of the University's purview though. Fraternities are organizations that are part of the University, and at most SEC schools they have houses on University owned land. With that, they have agreements with the University on how they'll police their members' behavior. When they don't, the University has little choice but to step in and punish them, especially when there's a death involved.

Why should you be able to tell anyone how to spend their time?
I personally enjoyed my time in Greek life. It’s not for everyone. If i had the chance to do it again, I dont know if I would, but that is the young man going through rushes decision; not yours

Still feeling sorry for yourself that you didn't get invited. OOHHH.
No travel moms/dads that I met during my stay on campus in the Greek system. Like any group at LSU, blue collar and white collar mixture, with a lot of good down to earth folks.
Check with the LSU Foundation regarding checks written to them by alums - more than 70% comes from those that were in the Greek system.
I guess you would consider them losers as well.

It will.
They’re giving up control though, and with it safety. The drugs, and drinking will continue.

The bottom line is that these suspensions & the crusade against Greek life is not going to end well for LSU, or any college.
The groups of like minded thinking/want to party people is not going to disappear. These students will move their groups off campus & meet in secret, just like the founding members of Greek organizations did over 100 years ago. Especially now because pooling money together for parties is always the best option for more people-which is essentially 90% of Greek life anyway.
So now, you'll have more drinking incidents taking place off campus leading to more OWI/DWIs.
It is next to impossible to prove with data because it's not recorded as such, but alcohol related issues at colleges/college bars/surrounding apartments of their students are greatly outnumbered by non-Greeks than Greeks.
Many LSU chapters already act/exist against most of the National Office bullshite anyway. They're basically Mardi Gras Krewes. Their way of doing things is just going to adapt.

The Greeks don’t want no freaks but LSU evidently don’t want no greeks. On a per capita basis, greek letter organizations have produced more leaders in the business world who donate to the university than the social justice warrior clubs that convene at Free Speech Alley ever will.
