She was on 190 between Port Barre and I-49 heading back to Dallas area.

No seatbelt and rear ended an 18 wheeler that was slowing down.

Heartbreaking to watch the news story.

Teach your kids to buckle up and pay attention to the road. Hug your kids today and every day. Tomorrow is not guaranteed.

Prayers to her family.

Sad shite. I hope she wasn’t on her phone. That’s one of my biggest fears with my loved ones, especially the women who are on their phones all the time.

Took me a sec to figured out that MVA = motor vehicle accident.

That is horrible.

Regarding the seat belt issue, I grew up when seatbelt use was not mandatory (and lots of cars in the road still just had lap belts) as well as a very laissez faire view of them, and some even argued there were more dangerous. That said I basically never run into anyone that doesn't immediately buckle up, is this coming back or was this an outlier?

First thing I thought. I know its easier said than done, but people need to disconnect from their phones while driving. People are always taking their eyes off the road to read text, etc.. And all it takes is to look down for a second or two and someone in front of you to hit the brakes suddenly.

Gotta be on paying attention going through Port Barre. Everyone is slowing down to turn into the world famous Port Barre McDonalds.

So tragic. Sadly I’m far too familiar with the feelings this family is experiencing right now. God bless them

I have trouble linking from my Android. Sorry

Her name was Courtney Hodge.

All the BTR news stations and People magazine have the story.

We had a 1969 VW bug and my 8 y.o. self sat in that area behind the back seat and window. Knowing what my young self didn't know: Death trap if rear ended, being that the engine was in the rear.

I work in field service and we use a service called samsara to track our trucks and the amount of people that don’t regularly use seat belts in 2026 is absolutely crazy.

We had a 78 Pontiac Granville. Parents and 4 kids. Really wide tank of a car so 3 could have room to not touch in the back seat. We would rotate for the prize position of laying in the space between the back seat tops and the rear windshield. Get a pillow and a blanket and it was the deluxe set-up. Never wore seat belts if we were on the seat.

Had we ever wrecked, pretty sure one or more of us would have been killed. I am trying to remember when I religiously started wearing a seat belt. Maybe 1990 around age of 20. Pretty sure I was always wearing it by 22.

Yeah, people argued that it was safer to be thrown clear of an accident. People actually argued that.
