These schools need major layoffs anyway.
Yep, but LSU would get rid of the Engineering Department and Business School (the one's with the wealthiest, most generous, alums) in favor of Gender and Equity Studies and other woke programs.

And every single one has a completely free ride to a four year degree, all expenses paid, and in the case of the P5, top of the line medical, athletic training, and nutritional care.
This. The folks who cry "pay the players" are too stupid to realize they are, in fact, paid very well.

So how much will they lose playing in front of an empty stadium?
I believe Stephanie Rempe (COO) was quoted saying they’d lose $25M-$30M playing with no fans

If they received, let's say a measly 25% of what they bring in after expenses, that'd still blow what they're getting now in scholarships and stipends out of the water.

That's fine, just don't give me the "paid very well crap."

I mean what do they get
- Free room and board
- free tuition
- free books
- free meal plan
- free tutoring
- free gear (clothes, shoes, etc)
- they get a stipend that can range from 2k-5k per school year
- many get free gadgets such as headphones, ipads, gaming consoles
- free medical, dental, and vision care
I'm curious what the proposal to pay is for many, does a 5* get more than a 4*? Does a Walk-in get paid? Do you reduce their current benefits? How much should they get paid? Minimum wage for their time at practice and in the field?

I personally don't have a strong opinion on this topic and they'reeare certainly great arguments made by people against. But the "they're already well compensated" line just doesn't fly.

There is nothing “free” about it, you are trading huge amounts of time and effort for these benefits, I the fall it amounts to a full time job. It is almost impossible to take courses with any amount of academic rigor and play football.

LSU leaders say the school is facing a steep loss if the SEC follows the Big 10 and Pac-12 conferences in canceling fall sports.
Funny how the universities were all on-board as the governors (JBE, etc) shut down everything and causing financial hardship en masse, but when it comes to their own money, they’re trying so hard to justify playing a game in the middle of a pandemic. A game for crying out loud!
You can’t have it both ways boys: Either open it all up...bars, movies, etc, or shut it all down, including your precious football.

Should have thought of this before selling out to BLM demands.

The star football player who helps make tens of millions of dollars for the school, millions for the coaches and helps energize the local economy gets roughly the same benefits of the lady basketball player that loses four million dollars a year for the school.
There in is the problem. In a capitalist system it’s not suppose to work that way.

They're paid a frick ton a lot better than my son who recently graduated from LSU and my daughter who is currently a student. I have ZERO pity or college athletes.

Boo hoo. frick these schools. Open up, play your sports and make the money that you can. I have no sympathy for these schools when they willingly conduct themselves in a manner that is financially stupid and irresponsible.
If they choose not to make money, they can close. They deserve it.
