I know you would know Mr. Professor.

This sure seems like quite a bit of variance, especially when you start accounting for different days of checking out that results in different pro-ratings.
We can address this again once my refund hits. So far all I've gotten refunded on is the meal plan. But i know exactly how much i paid for her to live in the dorm and we can get the pro-rata figured out pretty dang close to the mark. Within 2-3 days of what LSU has to be using.
eta: My account balance going into the pandemic was $0 so that won't be a factor going into my refund.

If you read the text they sent out in my first post, you will be refunded for the remaining unused days on the room, minus 75% of the balance of the lowest priced room in the dorm you lived as a penalty for leaving early. I have confirmed this verbally with Residence Life and the email in my first post from Residence Life confirms it as well. There is no debating it, LSU is making it as convoluted as possible hoping it will go by the wayside and students won't realize that they were just fined by the University a total somewhere north of $5,000,000!

There is no text in the first post. That image has never worked for me.
eta: I can read your text in the OP, but you clearly are trying to post a screenshot of something coming straight from LSU, and that does not show up for me.

Just spoke to Residential Life, even though they "strongly encouraged" all students to move out if they could, they are now assessing a 75% penalty for breaking the contract. Instead of a $2,000 refund, students will now receive about $500. "Live Purple, Love Gold"!
Typical. Just fricking typical.

Why is the OP not banned yet for posting something that has been proven false? I guess the admins have been stricken.
Because it seems like he is correct?

Yep, we just got the same today, that does include the 75% penalty off of the remaining rent. The refund should have been a little less than $2,000. Thank you LSU, while most governmental agencies are discussing helping residents, LSU is bending over their own students!

Did you ever speak to anyone other than the "assistant director of finance" for ResLife?

Just received my daughter’s refund. Same amount —849$. She lived in the on campus apartments.

A lot of colleges have not yet come to a decision as to how much or if to refund. They are thinking it through a bit longer and it seems as if LSU should have done the same because the way they are wording this as a penalty is setting them up for a very quick slam dunk class action where the legal fees may be the same as what they are charging in penalties.

It would be more accurate to say that they are refunding 25% of the remaining lease when you break the contract, rather than calling it a 75% penalty.
If your kid were living at Campus Crossings and you decided living at home would be better due to the virus, would you expect them to just forgive the remainder of the lease?
It is a bad look for LSU from a PR standpoint, though. What are they doing about unused meal plans? Because refusing to refund those would be a much bigger issue IMO.

Campus Crossing did not limit access.

Except LSU explicitly asked people to break the contract.

My refund hit today as well.
$574 refund, initially paid $3,489 for dorm.
I still don't know what LSU is using as their pro-rated figure.
The semester has roughly 45% remaining so they should have refunded me either $1,580 (no penalty) or $395 (with penalty).
$574 is roughly 66% after penalty which isn't close to the amount of semester remaining.

The penalty is 75% of the lowest priced room in your dorm, not necessarily your room type. The contract specifically lists it as a penalty, but LSU isn't calling that, as a matter of fact, they actually aren't calling it anything, they are just hoping everyone is happy with the refund they received and will go away quietly.
