Not really wanting to pay to insure a bunch of shite college furniture but it's a requirement. Anyone dealt with this?
Does homeowner's cover child's belongings at college? (doubtful, but thought I'd ask).

Renters insurance is like $15 a month

Renters insurance is pretty cheap from my experience

It is like $20 month for a policy.

I had to get that a couple years ago. I want to say it was like $100 for the whole year. What you can do is pay for it, give them the certificate, and then cancel it if you want.

Had a cousin lose everything in an apartment fire because some frickhead decided to run a generator unattended indoors.
Get the insurance.

Not saying that you can afford better (not judging either) but if they’re requiring Renter’s Insurance then petty crime, B & E and car theft are probably major issues at that complex.
But like others said, your quote should be between $15-25 a month depending on how much of your stuff you insure.

Have it put in the kids name, it could help them with loyalty benefits when they either start paying for their own car insurance or get homeowners insurance.
It's a cheap way to build up future benefits.

The apartment complexes don't give a shite about your belongings. They require you to have it for the liability portion (if someone gets injured). Just get the minimum amount required. It can be as low as 10 bucks a month....

Renter's insurance is required for nearly all rentals these days, regardless of where, especially if the property is being managed by a third party

In my experience the insurance company sends something to the landlord letting them know you canceled. Then the complex is gonna charge you like 30 bucks each month you aren't covered. Just call the local Allstate and get a policy for the length of the lease. Here in south Florida it was only like 12 bucks a month last time I had to do it.

Super cheap and super worth it.you never know when your neighbor is going to fall asleep filling the tub and flood the place.
I never worked anywhere requiring it, but I used to push people into getting it when going over the lease. Better not need but have than the other way around.

This is an interesting topic.
I turned 18 in 2010 and that’s when I first started renting. I’ve never rented an apartment where renters insurance wasn’t required.

Liability insurance is the only requirement & doesn’t cover your belongings. It’s been required everywhere I’ve ever rented & very easy

Before you even priced it, you came here to complain and try to get around it?

Even when I rented apartments/houses in Memphis from 2006-2014 this was not a thing yet.
