JUST FYI

Buddy of mine selling his 200k mileage truck got hit by these scammers from TN last week.

The way it works is the sabotage your car in some way then act all dramatic and hope you take a low ball offer.

In his case, a test drive was scheduled early in the morning. Two guys came to look. One distracted his attention to inside the car and the other did something in the engine. When they went to drive it started overheating (which it had not been doing).

They pulled off the side of the road and gave him a lowball offer saying it was now going to have to be towed and repaired. Buddy (also not the sharpest tool) agreed.

A day later he got a call from some local TN police that these folks got arrested and that his truck was impounded and after "x" days could come get his truck (which he did). Apparently they had a record they had done this to at least 30 people.

In the end, he kept the lowball money and the "indians" as he described them had left a bucket of change in the front seat. Had to pay the impound fee.

Just FYI for those selling older vehicles. People suck.

Indians are the absolute worst when it comes to selling anything.

I’m not dealing with the public on a major sale. Carmax for me.

Can't say I love used car buying. But Carmax the price is the price, 30 day money back is good enough for me.

Absolutely not. Carmax, Carvana, dealership trade in, whatever works best for the consumer, but selling it to a stranger off the street? Not a chance.
