Lmao. At 1.36b, they could pay for almost 7 years of Starlink for everyone of those 140000 households. But no, it has to grease the skids of our legislature which means it’ll be about 200m actually going to the initiative and the initiative will be someone’s uncle’s cousin’s startup that will never go anywhere.

Disagree. Like it or not, the internet is becoming a utility just the same as water and electricity. If you don’t have access to high speed internet at a competitive cost, the area will not develop moving forward.
Shame Net Neutrality got killed 8 years ago against the recommendations of IT professionals advocating internet access be treated as a public utility

The government as been using this rural internet scam for over 20 years now to redistribute billions and billions and not connect a single house.
Same now with charging stations. $50 billion for charging stations, they've built 2. They give the contracts to the very selected who steal the money and kick back.

That's a lot of money to spend for poor people to look at tik tok all day.
Wasn't there a story over the summer where a remote tribe received internet for the first time, and they immediately started looking at porn.

Do you live in an area with bad internet? I have some relatives who do, and it's honestly shocking how much bad internet negatively affects your life these days. Everything is done on the internet now. In rural areas, buying some things online is almost a necessity now unless you want to do a whole lot of driving.
Do their phones not work?
Don't live in the boonies and then complain about not having high speed internet. You knew what you were getting into when you moved out there.
There are no excuses for not having good internet now that Starlink is around.

Have some neighbors in rural Arkansas who looked into getting Starlink but said it was too expensive. They use a broadband connection because they work from home but still have to limit themselves to certain times of the day. We usually use a phone as a hot spot when we are up there but the connection is so poor it's sometimes unusable.

I know you live in rural louisiana to get away from the city, but guess what, we're going to bring the city to you, and make you pay for it too.
File this under shite that the gov't should have no business being involved with.
I live in the middle of nowhere. If I wanted great internet at home, I'd have Starlink. But, when I'm out in the country, I have better things to do than get on the internet. So, the internet service I have on my phone is more than sufficient.

Obama rolled out one of these programs too during his administration that totaled in the billions but nothing ever came of it. Most likely the same situation with this boondoggle, the money will get soaked up by administrative costs and fact-finding committees.

That's what I was thinking.
I thought that was the point of living out in the country.
What are you doing living out there if all you want to do is surf facebook and play online video games?
I get the internet is important, but when you go to chose a new place to live, you don't just choose it without ever going there. If you don't have a decent cell signal, then you either accept that or you find another location that does have a good one. If you're phone has a good signal, then you have good internet.

It's $120/month and it cost $300 to get set up.
I live in the middle of Baton Rouge. I have one internet provider, Cox. I pay $120/month. I have my own Router and Modem, and spent about $300 on that.
If you think Starlink is too expensive, then you don't really need high speed internet. HughesNet is shitty internet and it's $75/month.
