I know this has been discussed before but why can’t our state increase the rural speed limits to 70/75 like our neighbors to the west?

We have areas with good roads with vast nothingness but have to go 55.
Is speeding ticket revenue that important to our state?
It was quite depressing coming off from A&M today and the speed limit back to 55 once I crossed Toledo Bend.

No, but it tends to be incredibly important to the local municipalities, unfortunately.

TIMED Program. For as much as people bitch about it giving us a bridge in St Francisville it was great for turning all the US highways into 4 lanes. US 425, 165, 167, and 171 are really nice now.

Those 55 zones are just a suggestion, not mandatory.

All areas of US 71(except between Lebeau and Bunkie)and 84 are good roads.
Hwy 1 from 190 to Alexandria is a great road.
190 is a good road.

Yes we do have some shitty roads out there but we do have roads in our state that are on par with other states. You need to accept that there are other parts of our state outside of Nola, BR, and Lafayette

i49 is 75 and while interstate, it is rural, lol. But I agree alot of the good 4 lanes have towns with endless redlights you have to stop from 65 to 45-50.

The real issue is the non law enforcement guy posted up in Monroe with a radar and taking pictures of plates and sending a non-law enforcement ticket that they claim you have to pay or it will be turned over to a collection agency (ultimately messing with people's credit). No way that is legal, and I could be wrong but I haven't heard if anyone has tried to bring that to court yet.

i20 is basically a TX speedway. aLways tons of TX plates and they drive like they're on i20 in TX (~85-90).

ETA: There are a some good roads in CenLA and NorthLA and SouthLA. 84 being 4 land would be great but certain parishes will never let that happen. Every state has bad roads. Our interstate system is just fricked.

Earheart Expressway (when there's no construction) is a three lane highway akin to I10. The speed limit is 50 mph. It's absolutely ridiculous. And a prime hunting ground for State Troopers.

Hwy 77 in Iberville parish.

There's a reason that people drive in just to drive that road on motorcycles

The more tickets you can write equal more cops and cop toys. Louisiana is a shite show. Taxing the driver who is getting to and from work.

Earheart Expressway

The true road to nowhere. It starts on a stub and dumps you into the hood in New Orleans and doesn’t even connect with Causeway. The on ramps and off ramps are like roach motels either you’re getting off and staying off or you’re getting on few exits inbound. The only big full interchange is at Clearview.

It would be nice if it connected with the rest of the interstates in the city.

Yes, and it's the only reason. Bunch of crooks using LEO to collect revenue.

Lolololol.
Earhart was a railroad right of way going from the CBD into the rail yards in Jefferson Parish. It was not extended until the middle 1980s which was late in the grand scheme of things.

This is part of the point I’m trying to make. Why stop at 65? Our 4 lanes portions of US highways in Louisiana are set at 65 but could be 70/75
