Its Norman.

Arguably, yes. It used to be indisputable. I think it is more of a debate now.

NWS Huntsville gives them a good run. They're both certainly battle hardened.

Huntsville NWS gets more F5s in their forecast area than anywhere else. Birmingham gets their share too. They really know how to do tornadoes.

For severe, yeah the southern offices are just as good. Norman is also pretty strong at the wintery stuff too.

Huntsville is sneaky good too.

They've grown into one of the strongest offices in the NWS. I say "grown into" because that is precisely what they have done.

The documentary done on NWS Huntsville after April 27 was an eye opener.

Is he the guy who's first day on the job was April 27? From Mississippi?

This image illustrates how great BMX and HSV are at what they do. These are all of the tornado warnings issued by their offices on April 27, 2011. I don’t know how they kept up honestly. They do some incredible work, and have worked tirelessly since that day to make their warnings better and more accurate (fewer false alarms).

Really, the best on-air weatherman is nearly impossible to determine. So much relies on their knowledge of not only weather and forecasting, but also their market. I will say that Jason Simpson, a protege of Spann, seems to have a photographic memory in regards to his coverage area, and most of Alabama. I call him Rain Man.

Good, but still room for improvement. I don't think they update forecasts frequently enough.
But, I do like how they'll more rarely put the entire area under some silly "hazardous outlook" warning that most of the adjacent offices do.

Matt Laubahn has multiple Emmy's. He's the best and one of his clips even made it onto Jimmy Kimmel.

You'll be fine unless you get hit by a Tornado.

Stay safe out there.

And if you see a funnel cloud, video tape it and post it on Tigerdroppings. Then take cover.
