...Southeast Texas/Lower Mississippi Valley/Central Gulf Coast States...

An upper-level low will move from northern Mexico into the southern Plains on Thursday. Divergent flow aloft will overspread eastern Texas and Louisiana as the negatively-tilted system deepens. A large cluster of thunderstorms appears likely to be ongoing in southeast Texas at the start of the period. This convection is forecast to move eastward as a low deepens and moves northeastward into the ArkLaTex. Although instability will be weak along the attendant surface trough, strong deep-layer shear will create conditions favorable for severe storms. Lift associated with a mid-level jet, rounding the base of the upper-level system, will provide additional support for organized storms. As the mid-level jet moves eastward across the Lower Mississippi Valley on Thursday, thunderstorm development is expected to occur across parts of Louisiana and Mississippi.

Instability is forecast to gradually increase across the moist sector, which should be located from Louisiana to southwestern Alabama. Discrete thunderstorms that develop ahead of the cold front across the moist sector could have a wind damage and tornado potential. During the late afternoon, the most favorable area would be in far southeast Louisiana, where the models maximize instability at the northern end of the moist axis. The corridor of maximized low-level moisture is forecast to shift eastward across southern Mississippi and southern Alabama during the evening and overnight period. Models suggest the possibility of a convective line located along the moist axis. This line would be associated with a continued wind damage and tornado threat during the overnight period.

Seems to be a decent threat for SELA starting around noon or so on Thursday...

Starting early this year. Usually you don’t see this instability until February.

La. weather is really, really terrible. BUT, shoveling snow is really hard work, and we don't need to worry about that, so, I don't know which is better.

It really seems more years than not, the weather on NYE in SE LA is shite.

Either stupid cold, heavy rain, crazy fog, all of the above, etc.

Tonight, Tuesday, it will be 62 degrees and clear. Perfect night for NYE parties and fireworks (GFY, JBE). Why can't it be like this in two days instead?

They should come up with different categories. The ones they use are not descriptive of the actual situation at all. "Slight," seems to mean you're gonna get hammered. "Marginal" means take cover immediately. "Enhanced" means RIP in peace.

Slgt stands for slight chance of severe weather. Might want to put that in the OP

I think those relate to the percentage chance of catching the hands of the severe weather, not the impact of catching those hands.

So a slight risk means there is a slight chance any one particular area is going to catch hell, not that the severity of hell caught will only be slight.

I agree they need a way to discuss the severity.

It is, but be careful with correcting that one...he does not take constructive criticism all that well.

I lived in PA for a few years, LA weather is far better than dealing with snow.

I think a few houses around me did all theirs on Christmas Eve. You know, the night I was trying to get both kids to sleep after bouncing off the walls so Santa can come and bring the presents?
