From wwltv article.

The bill will now move to the Senate. If passed, voters would need to approve the proposal before it could take effect.

If it only would include information already available with a license plate, I think the argument could be made this is a 4th amendment violation as the only benefit to anyone would be to make it easier for the government to track the location of your vehicle.
Not sure, but I think that might hold water.

Is the emission requirement expiring in 2027? Seems like I read that somewhere.
Correct. EPA upgraded the area to "attainment" status in 2016/17. But that was conditional on maintaining ozone levels for 10 years.

Yeah, it's another, slightly cheaper sticker for people who don't live in the five Parish capital region.

Every move you make in your vehicle is already tracked 24/7 by the massive infrastructure of ALPR's Automatic License Plate Readers positioned along every major road across the US

Inspection stickers are a scam. More of a hassle than anything else, but also revenue generators. Three bordering states, Arky, MS and TX do not require them for non-commercial vehicles.

What's the cutoff for an antique plate? I have 2 vehicles that are 2004. I will just beat them at their own game.

I remember you fighting and winning to not get your kid an SSN so I'll defer to you on this one.
Although I wonder how hard it would be to spoof a QR code. As far as I know, they're essential just barcodes. If you know what they're looking for, it can't be that hard to have one that directs to a page that matches, right?

Inspection stickers and the process have always been a joke. A couple years back I got pulled over west of Beaumont at night because both of my license plate bulbs were burned out. I pointed to my new inspection sticker that I just got three weeks before and the cop just shook his head and asked, Did they at least check your horn? It worked and he said just get it fixed and let it go at that.

It's your own personal QR code and when scanned by any LEO it will show them a copy of your DL along with validating the vehicles registration, proof of insurance etc...
It will also alert the LEO of any outstanding warrants completely eliminating the need to radio dispatch for said info unless it's discovered that you aren't the registered owner of the vehicle

Temporary plates are metal now.

This QR thing might be dumber than the inspection sticker.
If it’s a money thing just add $12 to our bi-annual license plate fees.

How is this different than running a plate?

I could see this going south quickly. They roll up, scan the QR code and immediately see the driver is someone different and immediately think the car is stolen. I could see that happening.
Or how about someone hacking the database and getting access to that capability. The DMV has been hacked like 3 times in the last 5-7 years. It’s a real possibility.

The state had 6 lawyers in court that day for that case. Not even joking. I was like “what in the heck is going on”.
I upset someone’s apple cart when I did that. They had a new law in the works and me winning that case completely shot it down. We won and they didn’t want to appeal at all.
One of those lawyers was there at the governor’s request. He said at the outset loudly “they aren’t going to like this ruling and they will have to appeal it.” I was apparently the only one in the courtroom that had actually read the law. A simple reading and understanding of the law made it pretty clear I was right. When the judge pulled out the law and read it he verbally smacked down the state.

Don't need to call dispatch, check proof of ins, check registration etc..
Yes some jurisdictions, but not all, have plate readers on the front of LE vehicles that will do something similar. I'm assuming this will be faster and more cost effective. It will also link to a pic of the vehicles registered owner which will help in identifying the "Dashing Urbanites" that refuse to identify themselves when dealing with law enforcement.
