Reading an article this morning about the Buckees that was supposed to be built off of Millerville in BR. Apparently this was a really big deal, first outside of Texas, and the politics of locals got in the way and they said hell with it and went to Alabama.
This brought up something I once heard, but had never looked into, (it’s true); Disney World was to be built in the area between BR and NO.
LINK

So, how much better would our economy, roads, schools, etc. be with Disney World down the street?
Bet we would have a loop and nice interstate at the least.

Imagine how bad traffic would be if Disney World was built off of Millerville in BR.

Could you imagine the Baton Rouge airport trying to handle all the tourists?

I would assume Baton Rouge would be a vastly different and better place if Disney had come.

Hey pointing out -hey imagine that with the airport, and imagine Disney with the traffic yada yada- THAT is what I’m taking about. It would not be that way had it gone down in 1960s. Everything from airline east was hardly developed back then- so had it been developed say around Satsuma or Walker, that was all vast trees. BR would literally have developed around Disney.

zero. the same bunch of corrupt, thieving politicians would be in office and nothing would change for us.

La. has a spending problem, not a revenue problem. If you gave the state of La. 999 billion dollars, they'd be broke within 5 years.

elect better people to office (my legislators included) and you might see a change.

The whole point of the article was that everyone was Led on to believe it was the flood - it was not the flood. I will find that article

Go back in history to the Casino proposals, all profits were to fix the roads and schools.

Prime Example 2019 - Louisiana is ranked either 2nd to last or dead last in all public education.

Worst roads in the US

Where's the money ?

The Buckees example is why no business moves "to" Louisiana

St Louis was also discussed as a possible site between 1963 and 1965, plans were drawn and everything. It all fell apart either because August Busch (yes the beer baron) insisted on beer being sold at the park or because of local politician's demands (imagine that).
