Louisiana license plate renewal

I just received my license plate renewal. Is the value of the vehicle what determines the price of the renewal?

In Louisiana, passenger vehicle renewal fees are based on the selling price of the vehicle and are typically renewed in 2-year increments. The rate is 0.1% of the value per year, with a minimum base vehicle value of $10,000. This makes the minimum renewal cost $20 for two years.

I got mine in the mail back in April, paid it online, but haven’t received my sticker in the mail yet. I know it went through because my registration expiration date on the LA Wallet app changed to 2030. I tried calling the OMV number three times, but always get the automated “call back later” response. At least I have proof that I paid the fee if I get pulled over, but screw the LAOMV.

Somebody in the post office needed a new sticker for their license plate.

Exact same for me only I waited on hold (speaker phone) while I did other things. Finally, a lady answered and put it in the mail to me right away. Same thing and same time frame for my boss also.
If you are stopped you will still be liable.

No you won’t. The officer will run the plate and see that the renewal has processed…assuming you didn’t print your receipt to carry in the car which is all the proof you need. Happened to my wife in March while waiting for her sticker to come in. They ran the plate and sent her on her way.

This proves Jeffy’s QR code is a scam.
They could have just tacked on the 6 dollars to your registration and saved a bunch of printing costs and database costs for a QR code sticker.
Jeff must have a friend in the sticker and QR code database business to run.

Don't you love the $24 convenience fee for paying online? Is the OMV run by ticketmaster or something?

Still worth not going to DMV

Only if you were dumb enough to renew via LA wallet.
If you go to the express lane site, it was much cheaper. Not sure why LA wallet can charge so much more compared to the express lane site.
Someone must have had a friend in the app business and needed palm to grease.
I think the LA Wallet software was written or white labeled by a Louisiana software developer, but the app title is owned by the state. Apple says the App is owned by the Louisiana Division of Administration.
I remember when LA wallet was first launched and it was pretty innovative. Then Apple took note and decided that it was something it should have done for its wallet. Apple started to sign up states for its Wallet features bypassing the Louisiana company that started the ID on your phone craze just as the Louisiana company was starting to sign up states for other state versions of the LA Wallet.

Mine was $3 or something like that. I know I would’ve remembered if it was $24

Right. And if it isn’t based on any physical inspection, can’t we just add a $60 fee when purchasing the car and be done with it completely?

Same for the past 2 times. Had to go to OMV Express and pay another $40 to get it.

I used LA Wallet, they charged the $24 fee. Should've done express lane online instead. I didn't know I needed to shop around to avoid excessive fees. Now I know

I was going to use LA Wallet since I got the notification that my renewal was up. Started the process and saw that fee. Hopped on my laptop and did it there instead. I'm sure they are counting on people not noticing since they can conveniently do it in the palm of their hand.
