And puts it...back in the ground?

To an extent but a lot of it drains quickly into rivers. Natural river flooding every year filled these aquifers and since we try to control that then they don’t get refilled. I think that’s why lately we have seen more devastating floods due to high amounts of rainfall, nature is trying to correct itself to put things in balance.

Farmers could utilize in clarified MS River water for irrigation and help replenish soil at the same time due to silt deposition as opposed to taking suspended solids free water and using it.

And hell that’s already got fertilizer run off in it

I hate to tell you this, but everything is a polical issue in 2021. Policy=money. We all need to realize this.

This. When Washington DC is picking winners and losers across the entire country and slinging TRILLIONS of dollars around, everything...and I mean *everything* is political.

The quickest and most efficient route to wealth and power flows through DC.

OK. So potable water availability is a partisan issue. Let's go with that.

Which side wants to protect it through government oversight and which side wants people who are paid by industrial and agricultural groups deciding who gets to use how much of it?

So you work for a plant that can make its own clean water. And that is easy to do. I get it. But tell me, how would you get that water to say, oh I don't know, about a million people?

Phoenix has a metro population of about 6MM people and their drinking water is pulled from the Colorado river. This is done throughout the world. Water filtration and cleaning technology already exists.

As some else has already posted, elected off I have been on the take for 70 years now. Saltwater encroachment has been an issue forever and is only going to get worse. It’s not a crisis, and it’s manageable, but I have no faith in LA leadership to get it done.

“Protect it” through “government oversight”

Do you listen to yourself?

Are you that naive?

Maybe 10-15% return to the aquifer. You lose some to run off but the biggest chunk ends up going into the atmosphere through evaporation and transpiration.

I am guessing we have a handful of geologist here and I would like to see the rebuttal to this.

You are very, very naive if you think only one side is being paid to push for their agenda.

The people funding the push government regulation of this aren't doing it for charity.

Ya, I did. What the frick does it have to do with what I said?

There is *always* a financial interest behind regulation. Always.

If you think otherwise you're dumber than I took you for.

ETA: I'm not saying there shouldn't be some sort of regulation, but you're simplistic "HERP DERP RIGHT WING CORPORATE SHILLS" take on this is just simply stupid and naive.
