We have underground power so my husband has reassured me that it won’t be an issue but yes, that is still another concern. Especially since we have a newborn.

Done. We are now expecting freezing rain overnight until 8 am tomorrow in Dallas to kick off the fun.

True in a since, but the main transmission lines are usually above ground which are still vulnerable to ice, and freezing rain build up. Also from my days working in the cable industry the long above ground spans of coax will contract. Sometimes so bad it will pull the center conductor out of its connector.

Your poor husband.

Underground lines are less susceptible to going out, you can still very easily lose power if there are problems elsewhere.

I told him I thought he could be wrong. Cause there’s always that chance

Praying it doesn’t because otherwise we are in for a not good time with three little kids, no heater and no tv or internet. There’s only so much playing outside they can do, maybe not my 7 year old but my 3 year old daughter isn’t about the cold.

Actually there are 2 identical ones right next to each other in the hall between master bedroom and a guest bedroom. So it will be equal but you damn right I’ll have my own bathroom

You better go buy a kerosene heater just in case if you don’t have a generator.

You don’t want to end up stuck inside after an ice storm with no power and temps in the single digits or teens with no heat. At least get a large kerosene heater so you could shut everyone in one room and be warm, play board games or something

Little Rock is now under an ice storm warning. Yayyyyy.
I hope it doesn’t do anything here but they are calling for .25 to 50 inches of ice starting tonight until tomorrow midday.

We have a gas fireplace in the living room. Would that not suffice? Let me know what I need to go figure out after dropping these kids off at school this morning. I know how to hurricane prep but not ice storm prep.

It's the same, but add heating needs.

As a mom, I feel you on the Valentine’s Day cards
Besides the heating issue, keep everything fully charged at all times. Try to use one device at a time so others are charged. Devices will be your main source of info if power goes out and you will resort to them for entertainment with 3 kids if power is out long term. You can always have them make cards for your family and friends to pass some time.

In case you missed the recent video, don’t throw snow on your neighbors driveway. Just thought it might be a good PSA given the coming storm.
