The general consensus is still a lot of uncertainty. The only sure thing is it is going to be cold next week. How cold is uncertain, and the amount of precipitation, if any, and the timing of it are still uncertain.

Birmingham weather guys are still pretty bearish on anything significant. There will likely be uncertainty all the way through the weekend.
gotcha. i think i'm heading to lowes in the morning to get this shite knocked out and i'll be done with it.

at some point i'm sure i'll be glad i did, regardless of this event.

Could not disagree more about James Spann. He has proven time and time again he cares about his community and weather safety more than anything. He’s a great meteorologist, and a even better guy

That's just wrong.

Funroe TV just now says coldest day Monday, 19/36. Cold, but not unheardof for this time of year.

Austin, SA, Houston, and Corpus Christi aren't prepared for temps like these model prognostications. Add a miniscule amount of precip and the panic will be spectacular. Something like Tennessee in 95 would bring this place to its knees.

Yes. He knows his shite when it comes to spring severe storms in the deep south.

Anyone who thinks differently about Spann does so for their own, personal reasons, not because it is warranted.

All you have to do is listen to the man talk about April 27, 2011 to see how much he cares about people. He is what you want in a TV meteorologist. The knock on his view of his "followers" is bullshite, too. He has recognized the importance of social media in modern weather coverage, particularly as it relates to severe weather. There is no faulting him for doing everything he can to connect in that way when a huge percentage of people are now far too reliant upon social media for weather information.

You can look at the list of meteorologists that Spann has trained over the years and see his impact. Most are top-notch, and many have gone on to lead other network weather offices. He is universally respected in the weather industry. The person who started this conversation probably loves watching guys like Reed Timmer and the useless, whiney frick Jeff P. You know, the guys who do 100% everything he accused Spann of doing.

Spann is a fantastic meteorologist.

He's also an egotistical a-hole. But most people great at what they do are.

Because what is being discussed are models, particularly very unsettled models. You will not see these models reflected in forecasts until a real trend emerges. Even then, it will be a gradual incorporation of what they are seeing.

Most of the mets who make forecasts for the general public know this setup. Forecasting winter weather in the Southeast borders on damn near impossible at times. Throwing out forecast with the whims of the models is a quick way to not last in the weather business.

You are confusing James Spann with Mickey Ferguson.

Wife threatened to smash a beer bottle across his face in a bar one night because he wouldn't leave her and her friend alone.

I think I heard he quit drinking though.

You mean TWC hasn't tagged this with some queer Winter Storm name yet? Polar Vortex Jaxen? No? They're slipping.
