If anything remotely close to what the models are showing happens, Baton Rouge is in for at minimum some very cold air. Remember, this is a long ways out and will likely still change even though there's model agreement right now.

Doesn't the GFS do this every year? It shows an end of times cold weather event in the 10-14 day range and then moderates to something more believable?

It does but the GFS and the EURO very rarely show it. It's even more rare for both of them to show it around the same general timeframe and NOT at the very end of the run. This is something to watch for sure.
