What's different about the kilowatt I produce from the kilowatt they produce?

Nothing. Other than you’re getting paid retail prices for your kilowatts produced whereas the utility isn’t.

I'm all for solar IF it results in net savings; However, manufactures want way to much money.

BTW what happened to all those billions Obama gave to that solar company??

Seriously? The gains have been enourmous in that sector.

Smart money has been making bank on the stock too. Government money has made me lots of money.

Really? You get to buy from the utility at wholesale? Where do I sign up?

The utility must have everything in place to supply a net metering customer its full requirements. If there is a 1 for 1 credit, the utility is paying the net metering customer more than it buys on the market. It should charge the customer for “wires”.

Better check your bill. The “wire” charge is there. It is called a customer service fee. It is not impacted by net metering.

So what are you asking, that the rest of all the customers subsidize and prop up solar? Should it stand on its own feet economically?

Are you suggesting that oil and gas aren’t subsidized?

And when Entergy switched me to their mew smart meter their charges didn't reduce to make up for their lower cost in reading my meter.

This is what pisses me off most about the local energy provider monopoly we have here in LA. If we don’t like the costs and services, we just get screwed

Then why switch?

You completely missed that. Point is that the utility delivers a full rate (base plus fuel). The only portion that should be recovered by the net metering customer is the avoided cost (fuel), which is equivalent to wholesale/market prices.

I missed nothing. He used the word paid, not profit. There is a difference.

The utility company chooses how to produce their power. Nothing stops them from using solar farms to reduce their costs and increase profit. If I have to buy from them at a rate determined by the PSC they should have to buy from me at the same rate.

So Entergy has to buy electric from themselves that they produced at their power plants? (I do know the grid is nationwide and electricity is "bought and sold" and sent to weird places) They have overhead production costs. I have overhead costs (the price I paid for my panels). I paid for mine, and I still pay for theirs every month. Again, net-metering is a drop in their bucket until tons more solar come online.

You are making them bear the infrastructure costs on both ends though.

Seriously? Why switch if costs don’t go down? Where is the business advantage?
