The edited versions included a logo for his one-man black metal band, Pagan Carnage.

I wouldn't say USUALLY but there is certainly a strong sub-genre of black metal which is National Socialist aligned. If anything this portion of the facts leans toward racism not away from it but isn't 100%.

Again it is not a central theme by a long shot but to suggest it doesn't exist is folly. There are bands that write/perform white power based music and some a good chunk of them are metal bands. In this case, one thing does not prove or disprove another.

Black metal was meant to be offensive.
Nazis of today want to be offensive. So they try to gravitate towards it, and have a weak subgenre no one gives a shite about. Varg Vikernes was a kid who changed his ideology every month, and became infamous for a murder and arson.
Real fans of black metal dont usually respect varg as a person, but appreciate his first few albums.
