Burn bans are nothing new in Louisiana. Usually just that no one cares and they aren’t communicated.
In East Texas which is pretty much the same climate and forest type as Louisiana they have Burn Ban road signs they can flip down when in effect and close when not which shows the frequency of them if they have those permanent signs on the highway.
We probably average a couple a year in my area of north AL, and it doesn't take an extended drought to get one. Most people don't even know about them. I've known a couple folks get cited for burning during them. They pled ignorance, rightfully so because they had no clue, but it didn't matter. They still paid the fine.

We had a little rain this afternoon. Whatever entity is in charge of the emergency alert texts sent one out saying the burn ban is still in place. You know some nimrods are itching to burn a brush pile or two.

2 posters really think you are starting a fire grilling in your backyard?

Just picked up another steak instead of burgers.

Probably not if you're careful. But if a few thousand people fire up their grills, one or two will accidentally get knocked over. Somebody will get lazy and dump their coals before they're completely out. Etc. Is it such an infringement to ask you to forego the grilling in a pretty dire situation for a lot of the state?

Millions of people grill each weekend. Stop

Nobody in this thread and nobody involved in making the decision to enact a burn ban has said:
“If you use your grill you will start a fire.”
Why is this so hard for some of y’all to grasp. The desire to demonstrate “MUH FREEDOM” makes people lose all aspects of common sense.

Nobody said you will. Did anybody in this thread or associated with the government make that claim? I’d love to see it quoted if so. I’ll admit I’m wrong.

Ask? No.
Ban? Yes.

Jim Rockford is insinuating it heavily.

I didn’t see him say “hey you know, if you grill you’re going to cause a fire and lead to a wildfire.”
Do you think that current conditions may be a bit more inclined to cause small normally harmless errant fires to spread when they normally wouldn’t?
Posted on 8/27/23 at 6:25 pm to tigerfoot
Could you just go take one off of you neighbors AC?

This. The vast majority of people can grill, use common sense, and everything is fine. What's maybe not being said is the small minority of people that just leaves a pit burning, dumps coals, flings ashes and doesn't care, etc. Or as said, an accident.

Who the hell causes small, normally harmless errant fires in the surrounding environment when they grill?

It’s dumb to use common sense, not burn random shite over or near grass, and cook for your family? …… ok.
