Pausing at the top, or telling yourself you're going to, helps the transition too.

Hideki does this better than anybody.

Lotta torque in that swing.

hit some balls literally trying to hit the ball 150 yds. no more. don't think about your swing at all, just visualize the flight of the ball.

Just disclose to your group on the 1st tee box that you've been struggling with your driver, may be a sore back or from not playing enough. Then remind them every tee box from there that you usually shoot in the low 70s, and apologize. Should be good to go.

Stop trying to guide the damn ball, trust your swing and fire away.

You're already defeated on the mental side. Time to find your confidence again.

You could take the old Lee Trevino advice given to an amateur who asked how he could enjoy golf more. --- take two weeks off then quit.

However, if you have only lost your driver it is more likely a tempo issue rather than a form issue. You said you were crushing your driver. You may be trying too hard to crush it. Loosen the grip, keep the muscles loose and try to keep a good even tempo as you swing.

Go to the range, swing your best iron for a while, feel the tempo and then try to transfer that tempo to your driver.

? When I do make contact it's pushed hard right with a small slice making me think the club face is open.

1) Strengthen your grip with your left hand slightly.
2) Concentrate on swinging "in to out."
3) At address, pretend like there is an invisible plane from your front shoulder to the ground and do not allow yourself to break this plane until making contact with the golf ball. This will force you to swing up on the golf ball.

Loosen the grip from your right hand. That should allow you to close the face on impact.

Make sure ball position is off your big toe.
Keep hands in front of ball.
Roll wrist through impact.
Try it at 3/4 swing till comfortable or satisfied with ball landing in target area.

Sounds like you're getting "trapped".

Move the ball up in your stance.

If that doesn't work, slow your swing down a little.

Sometimes when you swing too hard, your body can outrace your arms, which causes a block.

Post your swing

If you can't, my suggestion is to mind your left elbow at impact/follow through. It's probably getting out in front and away from your body and not allowing you to release the club head in time. That, or move the ball up in your stance.
