Federal. Tax. Fraud.
Anyone not named Tim Geithner who does this tends to get jail time or an audit that doubles as a colonoscopy.

Is this some sort of gift tax thing?
The scam was they donated to this guys fake charity and he dispersed the funds under the table to the people he was bribing. Laughlin and others then claimed it was a charitable donation and wrote it off on their taxes. The scam got uncovered when the IRS audited the charity.
All these people are full of shite: Sure, they were trying to help their kids while cheating on their taxes. Rules don't apply to little people.

It’s one thing to do shady shite under the table, but then writing it off as a charitable donation opens a whole new can of worms.

Bend the rules to get your kid into college and they will put you away for life, run a toilet server full of top secret info and get CIA assets caught and executed and you get to run for president.......SAD

500K would get you some UGA primo south side enclosed/air conditioned/catered meals season tickets. Plus you can legally drink alcoholic beverages.
From what I have read about the daughters, this is a better investment if they want a MRS. degree.

Zeus Stamos told me USC is an UGA fallback school

Pretty sure Ole Miss is the best in the country for that

What a bunch of bullshite. There are those that have done far worse that aren’t even held accountable.
As much as I love the idea of a liberal getting their arse handed to them this is insane.

Doesn’t work for everyone.
At least one gal I know went there with the intention of getting one but came up short. It’s possible to do a rebuild on the outside to raise curb appeal but fixing a broken personality isn’t something easily done.

Jussie gets all his charges dropped, but Lori might go to jail for 40 years
Well she’s a white overpaid actress, so...
Consider it a form of reparations.

40 years even for that is excessive. People get less than that for murder.
Posted on 4/9/19 at 5:35 pm to Street Hawk
Drop all the charges, just like you did for Jussie?

The only people getting 40 years for mail fraud and tax evasion are murders they can't convict for murder. Mafia, etc.

Martha got 5 months and the intent of her actions wasn't to get a kid into college.
Martha defrauded other investors. Aunt Becky defrauded the US government. I think 2 years is a pretty solid O/U.

I would never indict Aunt Becky for anything no matter what
Posted on 4/9/19 at 5:56 pm to Street Hawk
Just went through the admissions process with one of my own kids. It turned out mostly OK, but it's a real grind. It could be a lot more fair, and if "Aunt Becky" can be shown to have been part of the problem, the I'm just fine with a prison sentence. Didn't think it would happen, but maybe it will now.

Felicity Huffman will get 4 months.
I think Lori Loughlin still gets less than 2 years, but not by much. Everything being leaked now is still BS posturing, just like with the basketball coaches and Adidas execs, Mychal Kendricks likely getting a combination of jail time and house arrest over 3 years while still being able to play full seasons in the NFL, etc.

Her kid should have to go to community college for 2-3 years.
Considering this bunch, this would be a just sentence.

Who was the black actor who did time for tax evasion ?
Also, Jim Thorpe, the pro golfer, did time for tax evasion.
