Levees all along the Mississippi. And parts of the Ohio and Missouri.
So it's all coming down river instead of flooding Illinois.

My buddie's wife's best friend is in charge of lifejackets for everywhere south of i10 and she said there is currently a shortage. By tuesday of next week they don't expect there to be any left on the shelves so they may start rationing them soon. She hopes they can allocate some more from Nevada but that won't be for several weeks.

Yes, he means Morganza. They should open Morganza equal to the BC.
When they open the BC it doesn't flood anyone out
Opening the morganza does and puts Morgan City in a bind

And opening Morganza is bad for crawfish prices.

Not if they built a channel to divert the water into the Atchafalaya basin. You could do the same thing just by increasing the flow at the ORCS, but as one poster put it, it also affects the Red River to drain into the Atchafalaya causing problems in the Red River Basin.
Any how, Morgan City has protection now to 21 feet. A little more water down the Atchafalaya will not hurt Morgan City.
The highest ever in Morgan City was 10.5 and that was for 2011.
