If you’re at a luxury dealership and good at selling you can easily make north $100k/yr.
And contrary to popular opinion being good doesn’t mean being a scumbag. It’s actually pretty much the opposite .It’s being likable, attentive, knowledgeable and basically good at customer service.

Where I worked I would say easily 25% made north of $100k in 2022.

Car sales is such a sketchy stereotype. The whole business model of buying a car pisses me off. All the smoke and mirrors and slimeball sales guys who have to "talk to their manager" and push unneeded extras just gives you all a bad name. Buying a car should be like buying a loaf of bread. Here's the price, the end.

I know it's designed to prey on stupid people, and I am not stupid so I do my homework and try to get the best deal I can when buying a car. But lots of smoothbrains out there don't. I don't necessarily pity them, but I still don't like the whole song and dance.

That being said, use your people skills in something like project management or sales for some other product.

You should get out bc convincing poor people to buy a $60k ford truck seems like a wasted life.

Sorry this turned into a car sales thread. The obvious answer is to look for a B2B sales job, but realistically a lot of people will look down their nose towards people coming from car sales.

I will just add that you should take this time to not jump at the easiest thing to find or the quickest, but really find how you would like to live your life and go from there. Don’t be stuck with sales because that’s what youre closest to.

However, the OP isn’t selling exotic luxury cars

I understand that but if he is one of the really good car salesmen he can move to hotter dealerships. Every good car salesman I have known constantly jumps to the dealership with the hot product.

If he wants something somewhat more stable he could look at getting into inside/outside sales in a different industry.

Back to cars, one of my pet peeves is car salespeople that don't know their product line. If I talk to a salesman and they don't know how, for example, BMW Individual or Porsche Exclusive Manufaktur works then I am out the door.

Lol I agree with you 100%. The problem is, and I truly mean this, a lot of customers will frick themselves out of a good deal because they come into the dealership thinking the salesman will frick them over. The reality is most salespeople get paid in unit count bonuses. Not saying we don't want a high commission, but if you are standing in my way of getting 1 more sale to hit my bonus then I will basically give the car away at the lowest price possible. But in the customer's eyes that is too good to be true and I must have a trick up my sleeve.

Also customers are bigger liars than the salespeople. If anyone disagrees think back to how you were shopping 2 dealerships against each other trying to find the best price.
