I would stick with Toyota even if it has to be smaller than a highlander.

Sammy, I am a long-time Toyota owner but would also suggest you look at the Subaru's. They are loaded with safety features and as dependable as the Toyota's. We just got our daughter a Subaru Crosstrek Limited and is very nice! The Outbacks are a little larger and would make a super mom car.

I like the idea and thanks but I'm thinking a little something bigger. She's about to take a road trip and I don't want her behind a Swift truck and in front of a tanker truck with a guy behind the wheel hasn't slept in 3 days and turns her into a meat pie

If you’re looking for safety ratings, Subaru has among the best. We just bought a Crosstrek for hubby a month or two ago.

I do believe in Subaru dependability, just probably not big enough and overpriced. Plus my mom doesn't have blue hair or nipple rings.

I appreciate y'all's input. I might actually consider the Murano. I just found an ad for a Highlander for 33,000 with 30,000 miles. Probably can Whittle that down a bit

Does she really need the new car? Maybe she'd prefer having a son who saves his money.

Sorry about the Subaru comment. Just a dumb attempt at humor. I'll definitely look into it. Once again thanks for the input

Highlanders are solid vehicles, but I had a Hyundai Santa Fe that I put 280,000 miles on with minimal maintenance...would be worth a look at least...

I totally understand that rationale. It's just I've been wanting to do this for her for a while and she deserves it.

Have you considered a small, crew cab truck? It is like a car on the inside but versatile. Her needs have changed over the years and she may have something in mind. Whatever you choose may not be what she wants. She may just want to get groceries and dirt for he garden.

Finance the car and invest the 30k.
