Looking for a local artist to commission a painting

My wife wants a large painting of a brown pelican. I would like to get one painted so I can give it to her for Christmas. Anyone have any experience they can draw suggestions from? TIA.

It would be great to spend less than $1,000. To be honest, I don't have a great idea of what is a good price point.

Go to Circa 1857. Lots of art there and they can give you the name of an artist who does commissions.
