I made the mistake of buying a Ford F-150 I'm ready to trade it in for a better truck.

Bought FX4 mainly due to resell, as another poster mentioned. The dealership showed me multiple examples of where you get your money back on the 4wd.

So you spend more to get more on reseale? Amazing.

Get 4wd if you need it, you're not going to get all your money back on the resale though.

Do the addons with the Lariat trim justify the price spread versus the XLT trim?

For me, I wanted the options that the Lariat offered. As far as justified price is concern, all trucks, in my opinion, are severely overpriced.

I average about 18.3 MPG combined city and highway driving.

I went with Line X.

2016

3.55 V8 302a package
Didn't want leather
I have heated seats but not AC seats. Missing a tailgate step, but that is an option that can be added
tow package, sync3, trailer assist, 36gal tank, fx4.
I'm sure there may be a few things the Lariat has I don't. In fact It better. But to me, I didn't want them or the price.

Lariat has more creature comforts and gadgets, some of which are very nice. Check them both out and see if you want/like the Lariat extras, only you can decide if you want to spend the extra money.

Only thing I don't like about the EcoBoost 2.7 is the shutoff while you are at a stand-still. You can disengage it but its just a goofy feature. Other than that its great. As someone else said the 3.5 is a blast to drive, I don't do much towing so I went with the 2.7. but if I had it to do over again I would have gone with the 3.5.

4X4 no question

I get about 18-19 with a very similar commute that you described.

Just bought a new F150 last month and asked myself all the same questions you did.

I went with the Lariat with 502a package. Well worth the money to me. Chose the 3.5 Ecoboost just because of the way the engine performed vs the V8. It is much quicker. I've only heard of problems with the first release of the Ecoboost.

Bought FX4 mainly due to resell, as another poster mentioned. The dealership showed me multiple examples of where you get your money back on the 4wd.

I do a lot of highway driving in Houston and to Louisiana. Getting 19.5 right now. Keep in mind I only have 800 miles so this should improve.

Also looking for bed cover suggestions. Will follow this thread.

I have no regrets on the purchase. It's the first Ford I've ever owned and love it so far.

I bought in July. Went with Lariat 501a and love it. I believe the 502a came with the sunroof, which I wanted no part of in a truck. I went V8 over the ecoboost and average about 17.5 approximately 5K miles in. I had to drive a loaner ecoboost for about 10 days while my V8 was getting some hail dents repaired the first couple weeks and hated it compared to the V8. I'm sure I could get used to it eventually, but I did not like the lurching, jumping and whistling in the ecoboost. I'll take the trade off in MPG for a better driving experience. I likewise didn't need 4x4, so I did not get it. I plan on driving this truck for the next 10 years, so resell value wasn't a big consideration. Have not chosen a bed cover yet.

I have the Roll N Lock (powder coated aluminum; not the vinyl coated) and absolutely love it. It's a tad more expensive than the vinyl coated but well worth it! One thing to remember is that they are NOT leak proof. I've traveled in plenty of rain since I've had mine and the luggage has never gotten wet. However, if you feel that you will need to make certain that your luggage will not get wet if you stay parked for a while then I'd suggest putting your luggage in lawn trash bags for extra precaution if you think it will rain.

For a bed cover I went the BAKFlip G2. Easy install, works well and looks nice. I bought a Lariat Sport with the 5.0 V8.

You must be talking about GM products.

I'd driven GMC's my whole life prior to purchasing a Ford and even though they lasted me a while, it always seemed that they were a LOT more fragile versus the Ford I now drive. 20 years ago you probably couldn't have paid me to purchase a Ford. My opinion changed drastically after driving a F-150 Super Crew 4x4 company vehicle a few years ago. Bought a F-150 Super Crew 4x4 and love it. The room in the cab is very nice and the truck actually drives and rides very good.

Get the King Ranch.

EPA numbers aren't out on the new 17's with the 10 speed tranny. Should see a 1-3mpg bump I'd expect.

One bad episode in icy snow where you can't get traction would settle the 2wd issue for me. 4wd won't make you stop from sliding, but I've seen trucks barely able to move up a slight incline in ice.

I'm wary to buy the first year model with a new engine like that.

I got the 15 xlt sport and the only difference in mine and my buddies 16 lariat is the moonroof and leather seats. I'm pretty sure you could add the moonroof if you wanted to to an xlt. I paid around 8K less than him for mine.

I average 18.1mpg long term overall. Get around 15 pulling a trailer with a 4 wheeler on it, around 23 highway, and 16 city.

You can get a lot of the gadgets on an xlt...you can get nav and the sunroof on the xlt

I'm looking at the xlt with sport, fx4, and 302a package.....here is one with those packages and the nav and roof....
