Ponte Vedra always seemed like a dream to live there
I second this recommendation. I lived in Ponte Vedra for a few years before moving to Atlanta. A little drive along A-1A to get home every evening is not a bad thing at all.

Has to have one of the worst downtowns of any mid to major city in the US. The landing is a dump. Couldn’t even keep the tilted kilt.
City is more or less one big suburb.

Housing prices are ridiculous now, but they are starting to drop with the nationwide bubble burst aboot to occur. What quadrant is your work located? The shortest commute to an area with good schools is the key.
Amelia Island is awesome, if your work is close. Having a boat and living at Amelia Island would be awesome.

The beaches and Mandarin if your in Duval County or Ponte Vedra/Nocatee if your in St. Johns County for great living locations. If you dont have family or kids school age then i'd add in Southside/Riverside in Duval County. I'm a transplant from South Louisiana and there are many here with me. Great place to live if you ask me. Really depends if your single or a family man on what to expect and what to do.You will have a whole new perspective on South Louisiana once you live here then go back to visit family and friends

Why would you want to move there if you have options? Job?
Ponte Vedra down to st Augustine are the redeeming qualities of that town. Moved out we soon I could have.

It's been multiple years since the landing closed, like 3.50 actually. Most of the reason it sucked was the owner Tony Sleiman, Slimeman if you know of dude, refused to ever get adequate parking. He enjoyed trying to harangue the city into paying for every last improvement, and they finally said frick off. We're getting a "lerp" sign instead. No joke, this is supposedly "Jax" and gonna cost 18 million dollars.

Spent a lot of my life growing up in Jacksonville. I grew up in the mandarin area. I will say the city as a whole has changed a lot! I now live in northern St. John’s county, St Augustine Fl. I don’t know what you are looking for, or if you have kids, etc.? We moved south because of the schools and neighborhoods. Traffic has increased over the years but I would not consider it horrible, with the 95 corridor you can be anywhere in the city in 20 minutes.

I've lived in Jacksonville in the past. City is spread out, so it takes 20 minutes to go anywhere. In terms of where to live, if you have kids, generally, try to live by Kernan Boulevard eastward for the safest areas, but living by the Town Center is very convenient for amenities and isn't unsafe at all. If you have a family, also consider St. John's County. Places like Durbin Crossing, Shearwater, etc. A lot of great communities that are super clean, safe, and have so many amenities.
The Mandarin are by the river is also a nice area to live and raise a family.
If you're younger, the area by UNF/Town Center is nice for young people, also Riverside area has a very cool vibe. There's some bars by the beach too.
Stay out of west Jacksonville. There's nothing really to do and it's unsafe.
In terms of the city itself, it's not great for young people, but it's overall a fine, bland city with tons of restaurants and tons of different areas. Things are becoming more expensive, but prices aren't ridiculous. Overall, it's safe and the infrastructure blows New Orleans' out of the water.
If you have any questions, let me know!

Jax beach and ponte vedra are awesome but Jacksonville itself, nope.
It's amazing how, as soon as you cross that bridge into Jax Beach from Jax, it's like you're immediately transported into a small beach town.

Amelia is just up road and is very livable.
Moved here in 2015, have lived all over. Easily the best place I’ve ever lived.

I’ve lived here since 2005 mostly in Clay County (Middleburg, OP, Fleming, and Green Cove) but recently moved out to Baker County near Macclenny which is only 35 mins to Jax. Schools are good here and this is the middle of nowhere country. You will find small gas station towns and 5 acre plus properties in our county. Everything else in the Jax area is built up with neighborhoods and traffic. So if you don’t mind that, Fleming or St Johns is probably their best area.
I’m originally from Baton Rouge but don’t ever plan on leaving Jax, it’s a great area.

The new company’s office is near 95 and 295 in Baymeadows area.
Posted on 12/4/22 at 3:15 pm to LSUjefe
Near the airport or south of town. 295 is a loop. It hits 95 both sides of the city.
Posted on 12/4/22 at 3:17 pm to LSUjefe
Fernandina or closer toward St Augustine
Posted on 12/4/22 at 3:33 pm to Tvilletiger
At the south end of town. Bay meadows is the area the office would be located

If you don't have kids, given the location of your office, I would look at one of the apartment complexes around Town Center. They are almost all built very recently and looked super nice when I drove by previously. If you do have kids, then Bay Meadows exit off 295 has some nice more family-oriented housing too.

Live in San Marco.. Love it. We walk /bike a lot of places in our area... Can't wait till the pedestrian bridge is opened across the 95 bridge (Fuller Warren) same as one said Jax varies by community .. Riverside San Marco Mandarin Nocatee Beaches ...and St Aug. I also like Fernandina. If you like water... Not much better really : abundance of salt and fresh.
We regularly make it from our house to the beach in 35 -40 min ..leaving at530
I've lived in ATL and Orlando and morthing here resembling 50/colonial
It can take a bit though if you live in...Oakleaf and work on the Southside
I usually tell my chi NYC coworkers that Jax is big enough to have world class events but small enough to have radio personalities mention daily birthdays and kinda recognize so so at cinnoti's bakery etc or run into friends coworkers at various places.

Yeah town center or Beaches area would be my recommendation if single. UNF is right there so a lot of young people in that area.

I have a place in St Augustine Beach. Live full time outside of Orlando. The St John’s County area is really nice. We love it over there. It’s better than Orlando in every possible way other than the fact that our careers are here. We’re retiring to the Beach in a few more years.
