Not at WWL. He was hired after Katrina to run the Northshore bureau.

A few of WWL's best, as you mention, jumped to WVUE Fox 8 after leaving and waiting out their non-compete clauses. WVUE is now locally-owned by Mr. Benson.
If I had to guess, WVUE pays better, and perhaps, just perhaps, these folks like John Snell, Jim Henderson (now retired) Lee Zuryk, Juan Kinkaid, and others like working together and for local ownership (but with better pay as a primary motivator.)

He is headed to Fox 8 when this is all said and done. WGNO is picking up some hot talent though in the interim!

If WVUE can step up their morning news game they will be better than WWL top-down IMO.
If WVUE snipes Carl from WWL then WWL might as well start trying to compete with the News With A Twist demographic.

Honestly all I know about that whole morning cast is from Instagram. I always enjoyed when they had Mike dancing. White boy has moves!
