I think 4 days was close to my max.

The weekends are my favorite time, largely because I get in Friday afternoon and shut and lock the door. I don't go back out until Monday. I don't have to see anybody, talk to anybody, or interact with anyone in any way for the whole weekend. Only thing better than my weekends cooped up is driving alone in the middle of nowhere (especially out in the southwest).

In Greece, I spent a year in silence just to better understand the sound of a whisper.

FOH, man. Talking to yourself aloud is often a subconscious action and I refuse to believe any one here goes more than a day without talking to themselves at least once. Even if it's just a "damnit!" when you stub your toe, ya done spoke and the silence is broken.
I'm an INTP mofo so silence is golden to me but I sure do love to talk to myself when concentrating on something.

Probably a year and a half.

I drove from great falls, mt to Boise, Idaho then into Oregon in one day. 90mph in a Ford Focus across the Oregon Trail. No radio and poor phone service. Just silence. What a feeling.

I went about a week once. It was weird when I finally did have to talk. My voice felt kind of weak.
I went from a chaotic trade floor packed with people where I was on the phone 9 hours to traveling and taking bike trips for 3 months before starting my current job. Family said my voice went up an octave during that time and it was the first time in several years that I wasn’t shouting every single word I spoke.

Not really a long time without speaking story, but my favorite “silence” story is from a client golf tournament a number of years ago. One of our biggest clients, a national insurance company, had a tournament for a number of its regions in North Carolina. They invited a number of their law firms, including ours.
On the first day I was paired with some guys from Florida. I was telling jokes, did most of the “Jesus Christ Super Star” soundtrack, had them marching and doing some of the “Officer and Gentlemen” lines. We had a good time and posted good scores.
That night at cocktails and dinner I heard someone say that they were paired with Iona the next day. I heard the guys I played with that day say, “You’re gonna have a great time. He had us laughing all through the round.”
The following day I showed up and the other three guys came over to me and said hello. I barely spoke audibly and really just nodded, “hello” as I shook hands. I did not say a word during the front nine other than, “good shot”. I could see these guys looking at one another like, “This guy isn’t funny at all. In fact he’s kind of a dolt.”
After we got a bite at the turn and arrived at the 10th tee, I started my schtick and had them in stitches throughout the back nine. I told them that I had to “go silent” after overhearing the guys I played with the day before tell them how much fun I was.
Yes, I have a bit of a warped sense of humor.
