have always heard of these retreats that people go on where talking isn't allowed. sounds like heaven to me.

The first time I tried to talk, it sounded like someone else.

Maybe 2 days or so on a solo camping/hunting trip.

Honestly, one of the significant reasons I married my wife was because she was relatively laconic.

I talk to myself, so I don't really know. If that doesn't count, probably a couple days. I work from home, so I often go days without talking to anyone but my wife.

Silence absolutely drives me insane. I'm pretty much always listening to people talk, whether it's a podcast, or streaming service, etc...

It counts.

Seems like most people are like this. I'd love to understand why. When I have several hours of silence, I can plan and solve personal and the world's problems.

From the moment I entered this world until my 4th birthday, so 4 years.

Same with my son. I got excited thinking he might be an autist, but he snapped out of it and now won't shut up.

I wonder if I talk in my sleep.....I'll say 12 hours sleeping. If that doesn't count then an hour or two maybe while at work.

I once sat in silence for year to better understand the intricacies of a whisper...

I will need photographic evidence to corroborate this statement.

If I can exclude singing and talking to myself, I’ve had multiple runs of probably 4-7 days. I’m an introvert that lived by myself for 5 years.

This is my MIL. Always has to ramble on and on. Always negative stuff. Very depressing.
Spends a weekend on the beach and her tongue is sunburnt.

Few weeks.

My mom and dad left me in a funeral parlor all night with a corpse when I was a kid.

That's some good honesty there.

Naw. Even by myself I always got a jaunty tune or a pet around.

Once went 2 weeks without speaking while on a silent retreat at Manresa. Monastic silence is expected at all times.
