I forgot about parking at Harrahs. This was my main concern about renting a car, but that takes care of parking. Looks like we got ourselves a plan now!

You could probably just rent a car for about $30 a day...but then you have to worry about parking downtown.

Not a good idea if you're going to enjoy some adult beverages during the day.

Rent a car through hotwire. I have rented cars in Nola for as cheap as $20 a day.

That may be the longest layover I've ever heard of. Just did the cab thing to downtown a few weeks ago. It's like 33 bucks until you get over 2 people, then it's like $14 per person. I think I paid $120 bucks one way to go eat downtown with a van full of people! It's robbery.

I'd have a hard time not doing the cab thing though. Especially if getting a car means I have to sit at a blackjack table for a little while. I can't do that without drinking a few. One of the reasons I keep my wife around though. I may not have grown out of drinking too much, but she has, so I've got a driver.

Walk from the Airport to the Keystone Motel (8825 Airline Hwy., Kenner, LA). It's only 1.7 miles and you can enjoy your cheap-arse self there. Plenty of entertainment there as is witnessed-

Will you have bags with you? I'm not sure if there is a short-term baggage check at the airport so renting a car might be the best bet. Only drawback to renting a car is driving back (maybe buzzed) to the airport in rush hour, you would need to give yourself an hour to get from downtown to airport at 5:30 pm.

Setting myself up for downvotes, but the cheapest way is to catch the JET bus from the airport to downtown. Its a $1.50, takes about 30-40 minutes, and drops you off downtown (till 6 pm or something like that). Doesn't even go thru the hood so its safe.

I would definitely just cab back from downtown though.

Assuming you're meeting your group in NOLA, get one of them to pick you up and go hang out.

I'm from Louisiana, but live in Dallas with my wife now. We are meeting my parents in NOLA that night and flying on a separate flight to Syracuse together. Not a real "layover" as we are going on 2 different airlines. Having my parents pick us up is not an option because they are not taking the day off work to come to NOLA from Baton Rouge.

It's more the inconvenience than the cost.

Since you are cheap you can hop on this bad boy.

Take it all the way down Airline Hwy.

You can't Uber from the airport. Any uber driver picking up fares at the airport should be reported.

What like $10 for a few hours? I have paid $20 for all day on the weekend many times.
