I actually applied for a job at Movie Gallery back in high school. It was started in my hometown. They made me take this written test, and I swear there were like 9 questions about marijuana use on there. I guess that was cheaper than just testing employees, but isn't a video rental store clerk the perfect stoner job? A buddy of mine worked there and said I should apply because it is the absolute easiest minimum wage high school job you'd ever find. They also got to bring home a ton of movies for free, but had to wait 28 days on a new release to check out for free.

And the part about parents being out of town and picking the perfect movie, I went with The Abyss one time. Don't think we made it 15 minutes into the movie. I even moved the VCR to my bedroom from the den to put on a good show of it.

I got sick of the rewind fees. Nearly blew up a store over a rewind dispute.

Maybe. But when some girls came round looking for a new release that was not in, don't underestimate the power of, "No we are all out of that, but I have it at my house. I was going to watch it after work anyway, so hit me up around 11 tonight." It worked pretty well most of the time.

My home town still has a "family video". It's out in the middle of the country. these things still exist in small towns.

My sister racked up some crazy late fees that my dad didn't know about until we went to get another movie weeks later. Sometimes she still had the damn movie in her VCR/DVD player and we couldn't rent anything until they got it back. He used to get so pissed, mostly because of the fee he had to pay.

Our local video store had a "special selection" in the back room.

But do remember the days of renting the VCR? You had to put down a ridiculous deposit, grab this giant suitcase VCR and rent a few movies or laser discs.

I dated a girl in college that worked for Blockbuster. It was always cool getting to see the new releases before the general public since they always came in on Friday but you couldn't put them out till Tuesday.

There are still a few of these in the town I just moved to; crazy that they can stay afloat. I've never been in it but there always seems to be people in and out when I pass by.

Old habits die hard in Kentucky I suppose.

Video USA had a 5 for 5 for 5$ deal where you could rent 5 VHS tapes for 5 days for a fiver. It was sweet. Bonking the gf at her parents house with cheesy old horror flicks to cover the sounds

Maybe they are shopping for a not so "family video"?

Seems like something that would catch on in Ken-Tuck.
